I am looking at m.2 ssd cards and want to buy one but do not know if my computer is compatible. I don't have an m.2 slot I have an extra PCIe slot. Is there a convertor or any PCIe card which will let me use a m.2 ssd card and take full advantage of the m.2 ssd?, it is mainly for gaming.

I hope you guys can help me.

That was exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much. I also have another question.

I have a Asrock G41 GS motherboared, it has a PCIe slot which is extra, is only PCIe x1 speed the m.2 convertor is PCIe 3.0 will the m.2 ssd card still be fast?.

Is it backwards compatible with my PCIe slot?. I think my extra PCIe slot is PCIe 1.0 .

its backwards compatible, but will run at 1x, tbh id stick with sata 6gb if your pci-e is only 1x, you'd generally want x4.
If youre doing it for space reasons, go for it, for speed reasons, not so much worth the effort.

edit: looking at your board, i doubt you would have clearance for it anyway if there is a graphic card installed too.

Ok that sounds great I will be getting the m.2 ssd which is for gaming and I think it would give me a performance gain.

I did a little reading and a read/write speed more then 64mb with the m.2 ssd is really gonna be good for what I need it for.

    Thanks again.

I'd personally put it towards 16gb ram, to upgrade your 4gb, or a cheap preowned CPU/board bundle. You'd see better gains.
