Bought a new 2060 and could be bottlenecking with i7 4790

Hi all, I bought a MSI RTX2060 GAMING Z last week, and there is micro stuttering across all games I played, CSGO, League, Apex, even in Football Manager, it's like my screen has completely frozen for 0.5-1sec and then everything back to extremely smooth again, but it happenes so often

I decided to plug my GTX970 back in, everything has gone smooth again, so I chose to replace my MSI 2060 with Asus Strix one, and the issue still exist, i starting to think there might be a bottlenecking.

I'm not so sure about the bottlenecking part though, when the stutter happens I see CPU usage jumps to around 8x% and that's all I know, is it really bottlenecking? because from my research a i7 4790 shouldnt be bottlenecking the 2060

Should I downgrade to 1660TI or get a budget new cpu? Which budget CPU should be the best for me?

    Spec:

    Motherboard: B85M E45

    Storage: Samsung EVO 850 250GB

    CPU: i7-4790

    Memory: Kingston 8GB x2

    PSU: Neoeco 550W

    Graphics: RTX2060

Hey, just asking, did you fully uninstall the graphics drivers for a fresh install afterwards?

Just a wild idea throwing it out there, do you maybe have another PSU to hook up your PC to it, to test if your PSU is degrading slowly? I can imagine it's already a bit older.
I'm just asking because it might be worth to try and switch stuff before you order new hardware without even being sure what's the culprit ;)

Can you post some of the benchmarks? Time Spy, Firestrike and even some games you play.

4790 should not be bottlenecking 2060.

thanks for the reply, how do i do benchmark with the games i played?

I know time spy and firestrike are standalone apps

ok so in Apex legends when i set texture streaming budget from 6gb to 4gb, the stutter doesn't happen anymore, but i think im able to set to 6gb supposedly?

I heard its better to set step lower than how much vram you have. Still, i can set insane 8gb textures and still not have any stuttering (maybe little on the start) and i have much weaker card than you.

Now you see that you should've gone with 2070 instead.

so i ran time spy on my computer, i got 6782 in total, which is not poor i assume?

7766 on graphics score, buy only 10ish fps on cpu score

Here's Hilbert's result from his test, even with done a Haswell CPU like your's. What frequency are you running your 4790K, out of curiosity?

Honestly, I think when you look at Hilbert's benchmark and that he was running an octacore 5960X at 4.3GHz compared to your quad core at stock, I guess your benchmark result is viable.
The question about your microstutter remains though, why it's showing micro stutter even after you re-installed everything, opposed to simply having lower fps. And I personally don't think it's the RAM...

yes, i am having great fps in every game i played but a sudden drop to 30ish or frozen for a 0.5-1 sec is hugely annoying, especially when you are playing fps, im still struggling to see whats the reason

Yes I have to admit, I do so too... maybe your RAM is limiting here with 1600MHz, and I guess only OC or another set of RAM could give you certainty over that, except some other fellow guru can help you here.

but that doesnt explain i dont have issue with my 970!
when im using 970, in intense gun fight, i get frames drop i understand that, but i never get a micro lag

Hi all, i plugged my GPU into my friend's computer which include:

    i5 6500
    Z170a motherboard
    8GB KLEVV DDR4 2133mhz
with 144hz monitor could run apex in very high settings without micro lag...

so i think the problem is on the motherboard part or ram?

Your i7 4790 is actually faster than his i5 6500. Something looks unstable on your system for some unknown reason.
