We can only wish that the "redundant" (and now ex) employees will find a job somewhere after that. It's harsh to read news like that (in any business).

What I'd like to see is some sort of an industry-wide support for whomever lose their jobs within it. Like some sort of an "official" (or universal) database - if the fired person wants to be in it - where the video gaming industry can look at for anyone willing to be communicated to via that system for new offerings. It would list their competencies and history within the industry (basically, their curriculum) and so on. I suppose in most situations most people would do that by themselves (trying to re-integrate the industry somewhere else), but just sort of immediately being exposed as "Hey, I'm available right now guys, anyone?" might help accelerate new job findings and offerings. The other way around could be true as well within the same hypothetical database. The companies would list their current open jobs and would be willing to be contacted by anyone who just lost their job within the industry for 'x' reason (as long as reason is acceptable of course).

Anyways, good luck to them. And I hate to read terms like "redundant" when referring to people.

I'd no idea Blizzard has such a massive workforce in the first place.

Best results in the history of the company but since those creeps at wall street aren't satisfied with WoW and CoD numbers, let's fire 800 people and reward ourselves with millions of dollars in bonuses. Scummy company ...

Well a company has record turnover, but loses half it's stock value. How is it possible, I mean where does the profit come from if there is so little faith in the company from the investors ?

Also, In the same report that they say they will fire their employees they also say

"The number of developers working on Call of Duty, CandyCrush, Overwatch, Warcraft®, Hearthstone and Diablo® in aggregate will increase approximately 20% over the course of 2019."

The higher top could also take a salary cut so they have to fire less people...

But then they can't buy a 5th house...

I don't worry about those ex-employees. They sure have phones right? Right?

"redundant".... in a world where human workforce is considered commodity with no dignity.

In the game industry EA and Activision Blizzard are famous for being shitty employers but they have really cool multimillion bonuses for their management. I haven't played any of their games in the past 8 years cause i won't sponsor such shits where designers , artists and developers are getting their asses torn and at the end the CFO takes credit for the income and takes millions in bonuses .

What?Blizzard has been horrible as a company for many many many years now, maybe since 2012? Guess people forget all about the real money auction house on diablo, or you know allowing gambling on their games through lootboxes, or terrible business practices. Not to mention all the crap Activision do since they;re holding hands together throughout all this. But don't you have a phone? you know to play diablo, spend spend spend...

CD projekt red and a few other smaller developers are the last good standing publishers/developers left. Too much greed has gone into the business, when lots of money isn't enough you know something has gone horribly wrong.

Why would they need so many employees when they can hire a chinese studio to do a big part of the work for less; that's what they think

Problem is not with the Chinese studio , problem is with the really cheap Chinese studio that will be barely capable to keep up with quality and will create more headaches for the core team than solve problems. Been through this at Gameloft , we had Chinese QA back in the days overloading the bug base with unreadable bugs and stuff that was not a bug. The CEO gave them a chance but understood this is not the way to go so we received local QA team. Now there is a problem with the android porting teams in Vietnam - they just don't have skills they need years to catch up but Vivendi won't change this cause Vietnam is cheap really cheap and Vivendi wants to be Activision one day :)

Gaming industry has turned in the banking industry, while making massive profits they close more branches and cut more jobs to make even more profits for shareholders each year, i mean how is this even sustainable, they have tunred their workforce into consumable microtransactions, poor buggers. :(

Lets face it: after Mike Morhaime leave Blizzard company, the entire gaming universe of Blizz is gone.Sad,but true.
(gaming industry is no more the industry of passion & gaming, good guys who made "Golden era of gaming" are gone from gaming industry)

Maybe that "bobby" kotick should leave the chair of CEO.Will be better and healthy for Blizzard company to break the chain who make them slave of activision.
