Here RTX 2070 is pretty close to $500 price tag. it goes for $515 without tax and that's pretty close.

Well it's rumoured so don't know how much it's true though... Then again it's possible they could release the whole line-up without the RTX as the GTX line-up... i mean it might explain the prices... but maybe i am just trying to make sense of insanity :p

And they stopped making 10 series last time i checked so inventory will start to run out/low

I still think having a 6gb vram will not last that long, thats why nvidia is advertising this as a 1080p card.

Black Ops 4, ROTTR, Doom, Wolfenstein they all exceed 6gb even at 1080p.

Coming to my mind, how long do you think a xx60 card will "last" you anyways?

Do they actually exceed 6GB or is it just caching more than 6GB? A lot of games now in days will just cache a bunch of stuff it doesn't need until VRAM is basically full.

I'm not saying these games do that - I don't know - just saying that's a thing now.

Games that use a lot of vram, dosen't mean that the gpu's are bottlenecked by vram.

Black Ops 4 uses almost all vram that is available from the gpu. On 2080ti, BO 4 uses ~10GB vram and on 1060 it uses ~5.5GB of vram. This is on the same resolution. None of them is vram bottlenecked....

Who cares about Vram? My 390x 2015 8gb gpu will not be able to play any game at high settings at 1080p by 2020 like gtx 1060 6gb. That RTX 2060 6gb will play high up to 1440p on the other hand.

Well i dont remember last time xx60 matching the xx80. Like DF said card is more 1440p card than 1080p.

Sadly card dont have enough Vram so you have to pay 500$+ for 2070 if you want higher res.

    Read the answers above....

The 2060 is gpubound way before it's vram bound ;)

The thing is, we all hear about people complaining the card can't run 4K, or that they want a cheaper card that can, etc. I don't think that 1080p, or 1440p for that matter, should be what we look for when thinking about future proof.
But you are right, reading out the right positioning for the different cards isn't as easy as it used to be, for me personally that is.

At 60-Hz probably but not at 144Hz. I have an overclocked 1070 and i can hardly get 100 fps in most games unless i make significant concessions in image quality. I understand people who are excited about this card. Specially people with a 60Hz monitor who have an old card (no problem with that). It's basically a 1070ti for 350 bucks which is not bad at all.

But for someone with a 2k or 4k 144hz monitor who already have a 10xx series card the RTX series is very very disappointing anyway in my opinion. The cheapest 2070 with a good cooler in Canada are around 700 bucks. The cheapest 2080 with a good cooler are over 1k. Not too long ago the xx70 cards used to be around 500-600 in canada and the xx80 cards around 700-800 in canada.

I understand that with inflation price will go up in time but the price increase we got lately in the GPU market is far beyond the normal inflation. IMO there's even a risk it will hurt PC gaming. Not everyone can justify to spend 1k on a single GPU. One of the main reason PC gaming flourished lately is it was more affordable than it used to be back in the days. I can see people reverting back to console gaming with the current price of GPU. To be honest if i'm gonna play games at 1080p60 i might as well do it on a 500 bucks console.

I would expect in 2019 to be able to buy a proper 2k 144hz GPU for around 700 bucks CAD taxes included. The fact i need to pay over 800 bucks CAD with taxes is more than disappointing. I just can't justify spending that kind of money on a single GPU. I really hope AMD will make a comeback in the GPU market and that Intel will finally take the market seriously. The GPU market is in dire need of competition.

I paid my 1070 with a custom cooler around 570 bucks CAD pretty much 2 years ago. Inflation should be around 3% a year. The fact that 2 years later i must pay around 120-130 bucks CAD more (20% more) to buy a 2070 is imo ridiculous.

People are drunk in this forum. I can't explain it.

It is faster than 1070 ti and Vega 56, and it has lower msrp price than both of them. What's your problem people with its price? Come on, wake up.

I think it's because with a new generation of cards you expect to get more performance than the previous gen (say 50% more), but at the same price (including inflation) as the previous gen card was at launch - that's just progress & innovation year on year, technological advancement. In other words you expect tech to get faster every couple of years and real price should stay roughly the same. Because there's no competition from AMD, then NVidia don't need to stick to the rules. These RTX 2xxx cards just seem like a short stop gap to the 7nm cards that are likely to be launched in 2020, so they're just using this little window of time between now & then to milk these RTX cards while they can, I don't think this generation has much longevity & usefulness in comparison to what we have seen from Pascal for instance. And I think the fact that they decided to put only 6GB VRAM on the RTX 2060 acknowledges this intent that they're not designed to usefully last beyond year 2020, just until their next gen 7nm cards come out.

I would agree, but, RTX GPUs offer new features, that neither Amd rx series nor Nvidia gtx series are offering. So, new price levels, are justified.

That was a new generation of features, not only performance. That's what we really should comprehend. It was a different approach.

why are u defending RTX so badly? besides the 2060 which is decent the rest make no sense for consumers. comparing them to 2 year old cards is pointless ofc they are gonna be better.
people just expect a big leap in terms of efficiency and performance for each gen. this aint it.

The only new thing is DLSS . Raytracing can be done on every other GPU with some extra loss of performance on GPU's that have weak computing power. NVIDIA is pushing something that clearly is not ready yet (raytracing) pushing up the price just because they can. All these extra's will just raise the price of a product without a big demand and support for said features.

The problem is that the price is too high for a mid range card which should be around the 250 $ mark. Much of the performance is covered by the higher price keeping the price/performance equal with the previous generation cards.

Pretty much this. I upgrade my GPU often and i pretty much always buy a nVidia x70 six months to a year after the release date (usually around thanksgiving or Christmas).

Here's a comparison of the price i paid over the years :

(cheapest RTX 2070 i could buy right now in canada) EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 Black GAMING : 679.99$ CAD (1 CAD = 0.75 USD)
    ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX : 569.99$ CAD (beginning 2017 | 1CAD = .74 USD)
    GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970 G1 : 429.99$ CAD (end of 2014 | 1 CAD = 0.86 USD)

Sadly i can't find the price i paid for the 670 and 770 because i bought them on NCIX. So in the span of only 4 years we went, for a x70 card, from 430$ CAD to 680$ CAD so an increase of 250$ CAD which represent almost 60% of the cost of a x70 card back in 2014. That's crazy. Part of this is because the CAD is worth less but that's just a part of it. If you consider the CAD as constant over the years at 0.75 USD it's still a 36% increase in price from 2014 to 2018. That's crazy. And this is not even considering the fact the 970 and 1070 i bought back then were not the cheapest card while the EVGA is the cheapest 2070 with a custom cooler i could find online (stores i trust in the province of Quebec). To compare apples with apples the 2070 Strix is 809.99 CAD right now.

For me it's a mystery that some people defend this price increase. Most reviewers don't even dare to talk about it. Crazy.
