Man I hope this game has that STALKER feeling going on. So far, the original Metro 2033 has been my favorite despite it's jankiness compared to redux and LL.
And the spiders are back! The spider level in Metro Last Light was exceptionally and brilliantly done. The constant tension of hearing those things scuttling around in the dark and making those screeching noises was almost unbearable! Still, glad to see these mofos back in action! They look even more formidable than before
STALKER was amazing, but it was an open world. Metro was extremely linear. i find Condemned and Half-Life to be more similar to Metro's atmosphere in this case.
Exodus will not be as linear as the previous two games. It still features levels and scripted set pieces, but will also feature larger, more hub like open areas that allow exploration.
I'm excited for it, but, just like the previous two Metro games... I won't get it at release. I've gotten both previous games on sale, and, simply due to the timing of the release... I'll probably get this one later on as well.
Me too! I've already pre-ordered the game and taken time off from work Metro Exodus easily fulfills my great game requirements: 1) First person shooter 2) Single player 3) Story driven and ultra immersive 4) Cutting edge technology
for me the same feeling aswell. just ticks the box for all those that i miss for a while, since wolfenstein the new colossus
This week is 5 days of announcements. Today photo mode was announced. It will support Nvidia's Ansel. Tomorrow story trailer will be revealed. As per this article. http://www.metrothegame.com/en-us/news/photo-mode/
Wolfenstein the New Colossus was a good game on a fantastic engine, and even the story was fairly decent all things considering. The gameplay was subpar to me though. That's one major difference between Doom and Wolfenstein. The Doom reboot nailed the gameplay mechanics to the point where the story took on a secondary role, although it was still more than adequate to keep the player interested in Doom's lore. And the feeling of power and hatred you get from playing the Doomslayer is VERY palpable. For a character that doesn't make a sound, the Doomslayer still has loads of personality. With Wolfenstein though, they seemed to prioritize the story more than the gameplay, but the story wasn't good enough to cover up the gameplay shortcomings. And B.J as he's currently written, isn't as interesting a character in my opinion. A solid game overall and I still recommend it, but it's not on the same level as Doom or Metro for me.
I would say main character in all three new Wolfenstein games is the regime (new order): antagonists, environment, overall feeling in the air. And strangely enough I got bored in new Doom after couple of hours. I was surprised by that. I guess I got spoiled by games with story because in 90s I played Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem many times without any boredom.
I would give you that in New Order (and to an extent in Old Blood), but New Colossus is way too saturated with characters and long cutscenes with dialogue for that to be the case. This is where I see TNC a lot worse than TNO and OB. New Order (and Old Blood even more) had great levels and enemy mixing, and the "story" had a good flow (especially in Old Blood because that did away with the rather pointless hideout). TNC has worse levels when it comes to design, it halves your hitpoints (so the gameplay becomes a cover-shooter on higher difficulties), and bogs the game down with far too many interludes that go nowhere (the sub hideout being far too large, confusing, and mostly pointless, the dream sequence at the court, which boiled my blood), too much talking, increasing BJ internal monologue (he has more of it in the first quarter of the game than in the entirety of Old Blood), and mostly making it insufferable (him constantly asking for wings and being overtly "poetic" at every detail). So yeah, TNC runs at way better tech, but ultimately is the worse game than it's two predecessors.
