Hmm, I remembered that a short while ago HWinfo64 would no longer show Power in Watts for the videocard. A discussion with the very helpful dev resulted in discovering that some files were probably not where they used to be. I took a look at the error messages and it's the same file, "c:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVSMI\nvml.dll". Thing is, the latest drivers (or maybe just DCHU version?) is no longer keeping that file in that folder (it's not in the regular Program Files either). Quoting myself from the HWinfo topic (I have the 417.35 driver installed now, rest should be identical).

Could it be MSI AB tries to reference the same file that is no longer where it should be?

    Thanks!

Once again, it is NOT MSI AB component, it is a part of NVIDIA’s scanner API and I cannot comment it.

    Thanks, Unwinder:)
OC Scanner is working fine here on MSi 1070:

    00:27:56 Memory clock +0MHz
    00:27:56 Overvoltage 0 %
    00:27:56 Power limit 100%
    00:27:56 Thermal limit 83 °C
    00:27:56 Fan speed 1 Auto
00:27:56 Start scanning, please wait a few minutes
    00:27:58 Scanning point 1 of 4
    00:29:38 Scanning point 2 of 4
    00:30:51 Scanning point 3 of 4
    00:32:09 Scanning point 4 of 4
00:47:45 Scan succeeded, average overclock is 43MHz
    00:47:45 Dominant limiters
    00:47:45 Power
00:47:46 Overclocked curve exported to MSI Afterburner

Just a quick test to see how it behaves on Pascal. Stock "reviewer" bios won't allow it OC that much unless I overvolt GPU and remove the limiters, but point is, it's still working as intended. Nice to get new features like that on older hardware.

    EDIT: Small question:
Is 100% Confidence Level possible for the Test mode? I am getting 90% both at stock or with OC.

Do you have the Standard or DCHU drivers?
Anyway, I think I fixed it myself on my card, simply by creating a NVSMI folder inside C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation, and copying nvml.dll from System32 there. I have to assume that either DCHU drivers or newer drivers when cleanly installed after DDU would "forget" to create that folder.

The scan does take ages though. At the top, it maybe allowed an extra 75MHz or so, resulting in typical load frequencies of 1960 MHz instead of 1886 or so. Of course, that was with default parameters, the card can do somewhat higher if you give it the voltage and relax the power limits. i was just curious how this tool works, now my curiosity is satisfied.

    Code:
01:34:30 Connected to MSI Afterburner control interface v2.3
    01:34:31 GPU1 : VEN_10DE&DEV_1B82&SUBSYS_37921458&REV_A1&BUS_1&DEV_0&FN_0
    01:34:32 Core clock +0MHz
01:34:32 Start testing, please wait a few minutes
01:39:38 Test completed, confidence level is 90%
    01:40:07 GPU1 : VEN_10DE&DEV_1B82&SUBSYS_37921458&REV_A1&BUS_1&DEV_0&FN_0
    01:40:07 Memory clock +0MHz
    01:40:07 Overvoltage 0 %
    01:40:07 Power limit 100%
    01:40:07 Thermal limit 83 °C
    01:40:07 Fan speed 1 Auto
01:40:07 Start scanning, please wait a few minutes
    01:40:08 Scanning point 1 of 4
    01:49:10 Scanning point 2 of 4
    01:55:20 Scanning point 3 of 4
    01:59:55 Scanning point 4 of 4
02:02:21 Scan succeeded, average overclock is 146MHz
    02:02:21 Dominant limiters
    02:02:21 Power
    02:02:21 No load
02:02:21 Overclocked curve exported to MSI Afterburner

Small comment for the part you've highlighted with bold. I've already explained it for Turing GPU owners before but a lot of new Pascal GPU owners will start using the scanner and possibly make the same typical mistake, so it is worth repeating again. Please _do_not_ try to set fixed average overlock reported by scanner manually, use the curve modified by scanner instead. Average overclock is reported for information purposes only, real overclocked curve is _not_ linear, which means that stable offset for one point can be 50MHz and 100MHz for another, which will result in 75MHz average and applying such average OC to all points will make the system unstable.

It was explained above, NVIDIA themselves mentioned that it would be too brave to declare that system is 100% stable so 90% is the maximum possible value, even for stock clocks.

NVIDIA Scanner's stress tester workload changed and became much more power limited now, it is also taking up to twice longer than the previous version of scanner on my RTX with stock power limit now. On my system points 3 and 4 are power limited, which means that stress tester is constantly trying to rebalance the load to keep target clock when testing them. It is always useful to leave voltage/frequency curve editor window open while OC scanner is running, this way you'll be also to visualize the process of scanning.

  9. Thank you so much for the new build of Afterburner. I'm of the opinion that the OC scanner is born for RTX cards, and it's worth investing time for them.

Oddity...Once I updated RTSS to 7.2.1 b4, I lost the ability to change the OSD font color. Came up Orange. Changed it to off red. The preview shows the color I chose, but the OSD font is still Orange. Had to revert back to 7.2.1 to get the font color to change. Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    @bobmitch

    From the release notes:

o Variable slot 250 is no longer used to define own On-Screen Display statistics format, now it is allowing the client applications to redefine default text format. Such implementation allows the client applications like MSI Afterburner to edit default text color and size directly inside the On-Screen Display layout editor

Yeah I get it because of the way it was scanning it one step at a time. Plus in the end it says that the curve was exported. But I can see why someone may think it's an average overclock if they don't pay attention to the scanning process.

Standard drivers, "dirty" installation, nothing fancy. Not sure about confidence level, I'm getting 90% too. As I understand the scan takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Scan mode was 20 in initial implementation, which debuted with RTX series cards. Now due to reasons mentioned above (due to increased test workload and due to stock power being dominant limiter) it may take much longer, it takes up to 50 minutes now on my RTX card. Test mode is a different story, it uses fixed programmable test time (5 minutes hardcoded for MSI implementation).

There may be an error in the installer. Further warning I have not tried to install.

There is no error in the installer as well, I have no ideas what have you done wrong, sorry. The rest seem to have very special distributive then.

Does Test Mode use some variation of Kombustor / FurMark for stressing the GPU? Because my temps are way higher than usual when running this test. ~79C on average comparing to ~74C in 3DMark Time Spy on the loop.
