2080Ti with 2600k worth it?

My experience so far with my system has been great. Constant 60fps at 4k ultra. No complaints, would upgrade my cpu as soon as that wasn't happening and the cpu was the limiting factor. So far any drops was always the gpu and upgrading from my 1080ti to a 2080ti has been great. Then again, I don't play assasins creed or watchdogs (no interest).
Anyways back on topic, op should be fine depending on what he is doing. If he's shooting for 4k 60fps, I would personally recommend trying to get as high of an oc as possible to be on the safe side but overall shouldn't be a big deal.

Wow, thanks for all the replies Guru's! So a 2600K is not enough for the mighty 2080Ti.

Maybe a RTX2070 is well enough for BF5 ultra settings without RTX. :)

If you're maximum settings of ray tracing at 1080p on RTX 2080 Ti, your CPU 2600K seems to be not bottlenecked. :)

"Battlefield V" game - at 1080p + DXR ultra: RTX 2080 Ti gets 55 fps. It's normal framerate because seems to have good optimization. :)

Are you running on two RTX 2080 Ti's? Or DXR disabled?

I found even a 3770k 4.2GHz couldn't push a 980Ti in quite a few recent titles in my partners old PC. GPU usage all over the place in Mohun World + Black Ops 4, games seem to be getting more and more cpu dependent recently.

    don't pair a 2080ti with a i7 2600 trust me you will regret not buying a better cpu/mob/ram.

Well I had q9450 with a 780gtx and got bottlenecked. But it didn't stop me of getting it anyway.. I bought it for future and I upgraded my system later..

I dont see anything wrong with 2080ti now. Just raise resolution and call it a day.

I don't see why not. Unless you play at 1080p. At 4K, you'll be targeting 60-80FPS, at 1440 you're looking at 100-150. At 1080p, your CPU will bottleneck you as the GPU would happily be able to render 200-300FPS, but the CPU won't be able to feed the GPU that fast.

But if you're buying a 2080Ti to play at 1080p, then I don't know what's wrong with you... :p (Well, unless you play an RTX-enabled game, like Battlefield V, where you get 1080p 60FPS, meaning your CPU is perfectly fine.)

Of course upgrading your platform will improve minimum frame rates and reduce hitching, but that is always true and has nothing to do with the 2080 Ti. It would still be true for any other GPU, even the one you have now.

you can get a 208ti now and get a cpu/ram upgrade later, but i recommend doing that asap after buying the 2080ti..

He could, but by the time he updates the cpu and such to take advantage fully of the 2080ti, said card could be a jalopy and he need to upgrade that to keep up on par, with a newer card available and the sale return a lot less than just letting the cash sit.

I just bought the ASUS ROG RTX 2070 OC for my overclocked 2600K. Seems like a really good pairing, but I haven't had too much time with it due to being out of town.

    i ran a 2700k ( 2600k same thing ) @ 4.9 ghz , 2133 ram and 1080ti and it was a big bottle neck even in 1440p .
you can increase anti alising , graphics higher with out loosing fps to close the gap in the bottle neck

I would either go with Hilbert’s suggestion or just get the 2080ti and then upgrade your CPU, Mb, ram etc next year when you want to. Maybe wait for the new Intel Sunny Cove 10nm CPU. I wouldn’t be getting any less than a 6 core (or more) CPU when you do update your system. This would be the best idea as it looks like you keep your hardware for a long time. More CPU cores will become more important in the coming years.

I just got my 2080 ti and so far the CPU bottleneck hasn't been a major issue, my ram is old and shitty (its running at like ddr3-1333). I have an i2600k OC'ed to 4.7 ghz. In battlefield 5 I have been monitoring CPU usage and for sure I am noticing it there more than any other game.

I guess the question is, what would be even worthwhile upgrading to? I don't want to buy an expensive CPU, and almost every CPU bottlenecks this card. I heard the Ryzen have a good price/performance ratio, but honestly I would prefer to stick to an Intel chipset.

I’m with you, would go intel and I wouldn’t be too worried about cost as you’l have the cpu for a long time, worth it. An 8700k on z390 if your buying now is what i’d get. You could get a 9700k, it does have 8 cores, but no HT. Personally I’m not a fan of cpus with no Hyperthreading, hence why I have a 9900k heh.

CPU bottlenecking on the 2080ti with current high end CPUs is not at any level that matters imo. This is especially so at high resolutions like 1440p and at 4k even more so, where your GPU limited for the most part. 1080p is just hundreds of FPS so bottlenecking is a non-issue anyway, even if it is there slightly so.

I can't run BFV with DXR enabled on my 4.4ghz 2600K. The fps is just to erratic especially in mp. Per the BFV specs a 6 core CPU is minimum for DXR use.
