I've never bought a Razer product in my life (always thought of them as selling overpriced garbage) and for good reasons it seems.

I don't think scam is too strong a word here. I wasn't being hyperbolic. To me, it looks like a scam. They want to make money while having you pay for the electricity needed to generate that money. Normally, crypto mining is not lucrative because of the cost of electricity. If they can find a sucker who'll pay for the electricity, then it becomes lucrative to them. They give you something in return that is worth less that what they take. And on top of that, they invalidate it if you don't use it soon enough, preventing you from being able to buy something of higher value with it.

And that, is a scam. Textbook.

Absolute joke of a company, how they are still in business with the extortionate prices and poor quality of their peripherals in anyone's guess. This is just the cherry on the cake.

Lol razer. What they are really doing is asking you to send them $5.00 a day 365 days a year which adds up to $1825.00 for a keyboard that costs$185.00. Seems like a good deal to me.

Hey, so Razer have enough confidence in their hardware that they're ok to run "full tilt" for 24hrs a day without expiring in a puff of smoke (hmm, at least not within warranty period I guess)! Doesn't sound very 'Razer' to me!

    Does Razer even sell GPUs?

I wouldn't be surprised if they jumped on the bandwagon and added such a "feature" with GeForce Experience if Razer gets away with this.

$0.49 a day on a 1050 is actually pretty good - at current crypto prices, a GTX 1080 Ti mines about the same. GPUs are designed to run 24/7 and a single 1050 running all day won't add much to your power bill. I'd say this is a pretty good deal for someone who needs/wants gear but doesn't have a lot of free cash.

It's not about that. Mining puts a constant 100% load on the GPU, meaning that it won't go through heating cycles. I've been heavily into grid computing for the past decade which, like mining, puts a 100% load on my components and it's had no ill effect. The idea that you can wear out a GPU by running it at constant full load is a myth (it's basically personifying hardware, thinking that it needs to rest like human beings).

I legitimately don't understand what everyone is all in a huff about. Sure, it's a little shady, but you're kind of an idiot if you don't realize you could just do the mining yourself and collect the rewards. Like this is something you willingly use. Razer isn't forcing you to do it...

All that being said, Razer does tend to cater to people who just like something flashy and don't care about value.

    That's just greedy.

It would be one thing if they were able to get more points a day or not charge so many points for stuff in their shops.
