I'll be optimistic and hope the franchise gets a good comeback, I'd think it would be a shame to abandon it. I can't say I hated ME:A, it was just mediocre - Though, playing a heavily modded version helped my opinion.
Can I get the lottery numbers too, Just asking. Seeing as you have a crystal ball. Or just an opinion without playing it?
That would be the nicest scenario.... I would so love to see more with Shepard, the new characters in Andromeda were just awful.
the way things have been going the end of me3 was so wtf, that it split the fandom. DAI was ok but way way too much padding and busy work. andromeda was just an utter cluster frack. and EA wants bioware to make a destiny clone. Ok. Did anyone ever sit and think gee the one game i think i would like to bioware to make is a destiny clone. Vs a single player KOTR, or a new jade empire. mass effect needed a break for the time being. 2 fails in a row needs time to breathe. online shooter universes are already a thing with warframe having the biggest lead content wise, destiny is on its second iteration instead of evolving destiny 1 they decided f it sell a whole new game. A very niche market, market to start with, and what bioware going to do to really make anthem stand out or have value to gamers? It is not a RPG so it is already not targeting biowares core audience. It is an unknown IP so it has no core fanbase built in. and destiny 2 recent expansion addressed alot of issues people had with destiny 2. So people are even liking that game again. Isnt this EAs general MO also? assign a game to a studio they never done, after they had a few middling games that hurt sales. Hope they flop on their faces and they can dissolve the studio and reassign talent. maybe sell off a few IPs but they usually squat those. And how much discussion does anthem get in gamers circles? not much is the answer. If this game knocks it out of the park with lore or story or the game world or all the above ideally, and it wows gamers and critics alike it could sell well maybe very well. But there is zero expectations of this game among gamers, which is a good thing really, very few are excited to see the game or have any hype for it, most are wholly meh about it. When was the last time a game made by bioware there was not a ton of excitement around it? Not a good sign.
Had nothing to do with the base premise or characters but the bad writing and story telling (and to an extent, lack of "interesting" side missions). If you play through Andromeda it was riddled with potential: Early on the villains were mysterious: They could've slowly given away their goals... which should've been far more large scale and scary, the same level as the Reapers basically, but alas their goals were boring and that mysterious feeling of impeding unknown danger quickly diminished. Lots of plot holes that clearly hinted at DLC's or at least interesting story lines (like the 1 ship that got lost?) Bland character development and bland characters due to horrible writing Lack of interesting side missions & empty worlds: Previous ME games were smaller, but packed with content, interesting side quests, ...
For me it was the characters, I just hated them.......and, well yeah they were written terribly. Spoiler
I wouldn't say it will fail. Due to a bad taste left in people's mouths by both ME:A and EA's practices of late... it won't do as well as they had hoped. It won't be the second coming of BioWare, the smash hit of the season. But, it'll still probably do okay. Most likely... better then okay. But, the game... does nothing for me. Judging the game on it's own videos, not BioWare's past or EA's stupidity... Anthem's look, videos, gameplay... all that. It just looks kind of... hollow. The most interesting part of Anthem to me, was the very first clip. The first person view in the shanty town market place. Dirty, dusty... those first few seconds looked great. But, once the "game" started... my eyes glazed over and I stopped caring.
Seriously, i would love some ME1 prequel with Shepard. It's funny we're talking Mass Effect now, just started a walkthrough of ME2 yesterday hehe.
Absolutely! They have "material" for prequel: - how Shepard became war hero (stopping the Blitz at Elysium); - how Anderson was a spectre candidate and his adventures with Saren; - may be even mission or two on the conflict of humans and turians (again Anderson); - adventures of Wrex, Benezia, Samara, Aria; - the foundation of Cerberus, and adventures of Illusive Man; - STG operations like war against rachni, krogan rebellions and genophage; - story of Shadow Broker; - story of Citadel and Counsel; - adventures of Javik; - original war betwen quarians and geth...
Odd as this sounds I could see them revisiting the thought of resurrecting the franchise if Anthem were to fail or succeed. Bioware still has another DA game in development yet to be released...DA has been successful for EA & won't be cancelled.
Errr...I think Baldur's Gate was pretty well received...I'm almost sure you just forgot about it...sold over 10 times better than expected. Let's start with that...let's draw you back into the light!
Bioware in general is perhaps the most successful developer of all time in terms of game quality. I don't think any other game developer has such a high average meta score for their games.
