Hi guys, sorry if this was brought up before but I need help with my laptop. Its a Lenovo Core i7 with 128gb SSD as the boot & Windows drive, and 1TB HDD for storage. Every so often when Win10 updates, it will crash my laptop and would not boot. It stays at the black boot screen with the circling balls for some time b4 displaying boot error message. Windows repair can't fix it nor Automatic Repair, Safe Mode cannot be accessed. This happened to me 3 TIMES within the past year, the last 2 times I could still recover using SCANNOW & BCD repair trick, but this 3rd time that trick didn't work and I would have to reinstall Win10. My question is, is there a way to prevent or preempt such crashes?
It says Boot Configuration Data is missing or error. File: EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD Error code: 0xc000000f It keeps looping to this screen. I hope this helps give a clue. Thanks.
Something happened either to EFI system partition or files on it. Here is step by step instruction on how to re-create it (you can delete it before) https://medium.com/@hetmansoftware/...eleted-efi-partitions-in-windows-653a68b5c09f And here is BCD troubleshooting https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749510(v=ws.10).aspx
@mbk1969 Thanks. Will try it out before reinstalling Win 10. @Astyanax Not understand. It can update just fine most of the times but some random times it will crash the bootloader. I had this same issue twice with my company work laptop (a Dell with Win10pro), once I repaired with the SCANNOW & BCD repair trick, and 2nd time it was successfully repaired via Automatic Repair. Hope this helps to clarify. I am more interested to know how to prevent this from happening though. Thanks.
@mbk1969 I tried to recreate the efi partition but got stuck at (create partition msr size=128) . It mentioned "No usable free extend could be found".
Ok, making MSR smaller (like 100) is still no go. So I skip that. I then tried to copy files of the EFI environment , but it says file not found.
Execute command to list the content in source EFI folder: dir C:\Windows\Boot\EFI\*.* - will it list files and folders?
