it's a superb film, an original alien encounter, i ve seen this movie a couple of times, but didn t admire it until after multiple viewings, a real scifi gem in my opinion.
What I liked so much about this movie was that this time the aliens didn't feel threatening at all. It was something completely different from what we were used to see and it worked perfectly. This was a beautiful, well-crafted movie with some very fine acting and with some excellent special effects.
Cameron is the ultimate director in my opinion, Although he is a pain to work with, he gets his image across and proves why he is such a movie hit machine.
behind the technology lies a distinctively human element. This enables The Abyss, despite the extra terrestrial goings on, to approach the audience on their level and suck viewers in to the film, and i got sucked indeed in this.
ed harris is superb in this, anw i like him in any movie, he's just such a great actor and a great emotional actor aswell.
james cameron creates the tension like very few directors out there(ALIENS RING THE BELL),
so yeah all in all i enjoyed this movie a lot, and i recommend it to every sci fi fanboy out there.
have your say about how did u feel about the movie?

The Abyss is absolutely wonderful, a bit more mature than Leviathan and Deep Star Six which came out around the same time in the late 80s.

The Predator apparently isn't very good.

LOL Please for the love of god avoid this absolute horse manure

I love Eastwood's approach to movies. Always entertaining.

Last movie was the predator at the cinema for me with my brother. Oh boy, they have an entire galaxy to work with but they come up with this dribble.

I wish this thread got more love.

as i ve known zachary quinto since his 2009 entry as spock in Star trek, i felt that whenever i see him acting in another character, to me i just see him as spock, i can t like to watch him in any other films or other characters... but for example, i wouldn't feel that Patrick stewart for example, he was jean luc picard, and he s in X men as a lead actor somewhat, but for me zachary quinto i can only see him as Spock,
do you guys agree, what are your thoughts on some of these actors who just fall in the hole of having being set for only one role..

Zachary Quinto was good as the villain Sylar in the Heroes TV series. I never thought of the characters Sylar and Spock as being the same kind of role. I haven't seen movies with Quinto as the leading man, but when he is co-starring in a movie I don't see him as Spock. Based on his performance as Sylar, I think he would make a great villain. To me, Spock will always be Leonard Nimoy.

Why can t we have more of these movies?
simple and yet effective aspects of action movies i want and i still like from my childhood
the aspects are there and i will mention them, each of these points give the perfect outcome to an action movie and how action movies should be, i'm not speaking of any era or any decade, i am just mentioning what works for an action movie fan like me, and i am sure for others aswell.
it's true that no-one has been able to make a good macho-actioner since the 80s
i will go on and say what the aspects are:
1-a macho cop as the hero,
2- a sexy woman as his sidekick,
3-lots of action and gratuitous violence
4-a nice sex scene could be as a good addition.
    5-A brilliant Mark Mancina Score.
6-a great setting with scenery and waterfronts.
have your say on my opinion about how the action movie genre is lost in translation these days and none of these aspects are there given....

I cannot think of any movies from that time period that had a macho cop and sexy woman partner. I only remember buddy cop movies with two male partners. Seems like one of the trends in Hollywood today is to remake popular movies with females in the lead roles.
Your first three requirements remind me of.
1-a macho cop as the hero, Valerian-(Dane DeHaan)
2- a sexy woman as his sidekick, Laureline-(Cara Delevingne)
3-lots of action and gratuitous violence, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

^Luc Besson usually has stronger/rebellious women/girls in his movies.

Except that it fails on points 2 and 4 however Lethal Weapon 1 doesn't.

  16. Just watched a movie called "Alpha", a 2018 release. It's a portrayal of the first human interaction with the wolf which leads to a bond and the birth of mans best friend.

  18. Look I found it interesting. Obviously theres a lot of CGI but also great costumes too. If you've got an 1hr and 40mins spare I'd watch it. It's a slow paced movie.

My opinion of a good action movie is:
    1994 s Speed
    1995s Fair game

Yeah the Nun was nice to watch.

watched The Predator today. You know there are bad movies and utter crap movies, well this fits in the latter category.
Writing is really terrible, stupid acting. what has predator become omg

after i saw it i read a review of a guy who rated it 1/10 stars. I could not agree with him more in this case and all points he mentioned are valid.

    Avoid at all cost!
