After months of saving for a new powerful gpu, I'm just a couple of weeks from buying a new 1070 ti I'm leaning to get the msi DUKE 1070 ti. The plan is to use my 1080p monitor until I get a new 1440/4k 120 to 144 hz monitor (have to keep saving). I chose the DUKE for a few reasons. 1, its a msi (nothing against the others). 2, it has a nice backplate (never will buy a gpu without one). 3, It has some nice clocks.

What I was needing to know is what kind of memory it has (huinix). And does any one own this gpu that can give some feedbacK

My budget is $400 to $450 for a new gpu. Knowing that November is when I pick up a new gpu, I srill have my eyes out for a 1080. Thanks.

1070ti is basically a oced 980ti and that is not enough anymore. Ok it can be ok if you lower a thing or two, but yeah 1080 gtx would be a better choice.

If you can stretch to a 1080 that would be best option but given that the 1070ti is only a handful of fps lower than the 1080 it will still be a good bump from your 970 providing you have the system to back it up, also the type of games you play make a difference too, i went from Evga 970 to Evga 980ti with a big bump, then onto a Evga 1070ftw on par with the 980ti but with more v ram then on to my Evga 1080ftw with a slight bump of 15- 25 fps.

I imagine Black Friday could deliver you a 1080 for the same price a 1070 Ti would normally cost. Don't you have so amazing offers in the USA that people have literally died for them? Although if you are looking for one specific model only, it could be more difficult.

In my experience 1070ti will work great for 1080p, and you can probably skip this GPU generation.

1440p however can be tricky and you will need some compromises.

4k was strictly 1080ti territory for that generation, and it was far from perfect. Now a 2080ti will give you 4k@60FPS (from what reviews say), but its way above your budget, so I'd recommend sticking to 1080p for now

I agree, a 1080 is the better option, 2nd hand if you get lucky.
I've been using a 1080ti for around 1.5 years on 1080p 60Hz and there have been times it was pushed to the max.
ie Witcher 3, although it runs a little faster now after they patched it and/or newer video drivers helped it.

I recently bought a 4K TV and often use it at 1440p 120Hz because it looks fantastic and 120Hz is great.
You may want to consider this as an option for large screen high refresh gaming, especially when you can get very good colour and HDR thrown in.
Not all 4K TVs look good at 1440p and some dont look so good at 1080p.
My Samsung Q9FN looks a little ropey at 1080p in Windows but 1440p almost looks native and in gaming I cant tell either res are not native.
The Q7FN series is a fair bit cheaper and gives you HDR 1500, pretty bright and is actually much brighter than the Q9FN (with HDR 2000) in a 10% window!
For PC gaming the Q7FN is possibly the better display.
Response times are really low, 20ms or less for most uses.
The Q9FN has local dimming but this looks weird in Windows as it follows the mouse around. The Q7FN has a mild version of local dimming but its not a biggy, dark levels are still very good in movies etc.
These displays have a VERY wide colour Gamut and colour volume, colours really pop.
These are QLED, the best competitor to OLEDs black levels and get way brighter for HDR. They dont suffer from burn in.
Ignore side viewing angle issues unless you sit further than 20 degrees to the side. Even 30 degrees to the side is ok for those who arent into display tech.
Prices in some reviews are from launch, they have dropped a lot since.
The smallest size is generally 55" for this range of TVs. If you come across a smaller 49" it wont have a 120Hz panel.
    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q7fn-q7f-q7-2018

Another really neat feature of these TVs is you can turn HDR mode on for normal viewing and with many things it works extremely well and looks natural.
Its not as good as proper HDR but it does make for a pleasantly surprising good image in daylight. It might be a bit bright in a dark room.
Colour accuracy reduces a little but you may not care after seeing it.
Simply set HDR modes back light etc the same as normal viewing and it boosts highlights to the image.

ps soz for going off on one there, I had a free moment to pass on the glory in case it helps you.

pps its 'almost' and Hynix :)
I wouldnt be bothered by the type of memory.
I've not come across people regretting a purchase because of the memory mfr.

Usually black friday deals here on PC parts are the garbage stuff that nobody buys anyway like all in one PCs or crappy laptops. Very rarely will you get decent sales on higher end parts.

Trust me man, the 1070Ti might be good for 1080p but it won't be enough for 1440p and absolutely not for 4K, especially if you're going 120/144Hz. Heck, not even the 1080Ti can cope comfortably with monitors like that. I have a 21:9 3440x1440 monitor and the 1080Ti is barely enough. I also have a 4K TV and the 1080Ti struggles there with AAA titles unless I turn down settings.

I guess a 1080 would deliver an adequate 1440p/120Hz experience if you turn down a few things but don't expect 120FPS in all game with max settings in AAA games, that's just asking for the impossible.

Thanks everyone. I updated my profile (I have like a hundred diffident profiles on websites).

So I have seen a sale or 2 for some EVGA 1080s for about what I'm getting a 1070 ti for, but these sales are hit and miss and seem to happen when I don't have the funds or after I buy a different gpu lol.

So if I stick to 1080p and get a faster monitor will the 1070ti push a 120-144hz.
    Some games
    planet coaster
    BF4 maybe BF5 later
    farcry5

Here are my current specs to see if I'm ok with a higher gpu (updated in profile for the future)
    4790k@4.4
    8gb mem
    ssd
    windows 10
    rx570

I'd say stick to 1080p, and go for 1440p or 4K in the future, when it's time to change the entire rig.

    Right now for 1440p you'd need 1070ti (minimum)/1080/1080ti/2080 and for 4k 2080ti

Rest of your specs are OK but they could even hold back a 20XX if you bought one.

    I have a 1070ti myself, and I am on a 3440x1440 monitor and it's barely enough.

While 2080Ti would be perfect for that resolution, 1080Ti/2080 is fine as well. Suggest upgrading to that for you sometime in future (or wait for Navi/next year's Nvidia release).

I agree the 1080 would be a better choice, but saying a 1070ti is not enough for 1080p is just ridiculous.

Thanks everyone! Always good to come here and get good advice and support. I'm getting a used gpu as money is valuable.I will post back in a couple weeks to let you know what I got and/or get some advice on what I actually find.

I would avoid anything with gddr5 at this point since at higher res the memory bandwidth will matter more. I got a Gaming X 1080 for usd 350 used and love that instead of worrying about overclocking a 1070ti to the max, I can just use the 1080 normally. (i'm kind of bored with detailed overclocking just to get marginal gains so I just want a gpu with headroom that can plug n play)

Gigabyte is a no, EVGA has vanilla 1080 for $400 on there site. Comes in a plan box, but imho worth it all!
Gigabytes seem to not hold any world records(no offense to them) their boards are awesome.

I said my 1080ti has been maxed at 1080p and stated one case, it wasnt made up. I made no mention that 1080p is the best res for it. I stressed that a 1070ti was not going to be good enough for him, I didnt tell him to get a 1080ti for 1080p!
Then I wrote a book on my 4K display which I use at 1440p.
    You missed/added things somewhat.

For now it definitely is. For next 1-2yrs not so much anymore. Not if you want 60fps+ with "max" settings in more demanding games.

1080/Ti are being phased out as we speak.

Ti is almost out and its prices are going up. same for 1080 but to a lesser degree.
