Could you please respond to this thread when you find out if the updated msi bios fixed the issue? I currently have a 6850k and installed the windows update yesterday and my OC is not applying in Windows for some reason....went from 4.3 to 4.0

I want to update the bios too if it works.

    Thanks!

    You'd be better of just renaming/deleting mcupdate_genuineintel.dll in system32.
You'll have to use takeownership though.

After installing the October update for Win 10, the update was integrated with that and i can't remove it.

Any ideas or tools to remove it afterwards?

Doesnt it just come back after reboot? or do I need a program to hide it from installing?

No, it will not come back on its own.

Only way it will come back is from a big windows update, i.e. feature update that resets windows base files or if you were to run system file checker(sfc /scannow).

I just did a insider install a few days ago. I swapped out the .dll with one from July and set it to read only. So far, so good. I've not tried SFC, yet. BRB and let you know....

I see so basically all I have to do is find the file in C:\Windows\System32 and rename it to something like oldmcupdate_genuineintel.dll and download take ownership to gain permission to change this and everything should work? this wont cause any effects to my computer or registry? Never changed anything in the System32 folder so I dont want to screw anything up

So to quote myself, using SFC does change the .dll.

I can CONFIRM that the latest BIOS update for my MSI X99S SLI KRAIT Edition board the overclocking with KB4100347 and Windows 10 Build 1809 WORKS !. I wrote to MSI support and they confirm that for their X99 platforms all BIOS's dated back to June 2018 are equipped with the latest Intel microcode update.

So after running that, overclocking was broken again even though the file was set to read only?

I can also confirm that the latest BIOS update for MSI X99S Gaming 7 fixes the overclocking issues with Broadwell-E and KB4100347 / Windows 10 Build 1809.

Read-only does not matter to system integrity scans. It would not be able to do its recovery action otherwise.

Correct, it will revert back. It will flag that file as missing/modified and replace it.

I'll just update the MCU on my bios myself, that will get annoying to have to repeatably fix it.

Unfortunately, I don't hold out much hope that Asus will release updated bioses for our EOL motherboards.

Hopefully EVGA will do a bios update to address their boards as well..

Yeah for sure. Considering how much the Asus Rampage V10 Black Edition costed, one would hope Asus would take the time to sort this out.
