Received my Gigabyte Windforce today and... i'm already convinced that i will return it. the card is running at 50/51°C on idle and i have to force fans to almost 100% to prevent reaching 80%C while playing BF1...

My 1080 was at 32°C on idle, same case, same everything

Ouch, Gigabyte is a brand I avoid like the plague.

Sorry to hear that bud :(

There were some zotac and gigabyte 2080Ti's available locally, but I pass on those brands, even more if it's their first batch.

I've had positive results with Zotac in the past.

My problems with Gigabyte have not been with GPUs, it has all been motherboard related, but they are not a brand that I gravitate towards in general.

EVGA is my go to brand.

Same with the msi trio. Hasn't had any problems though with overheating.

That is a high idle temp.

Do you guys use custom fan curves?

My two EVGA 1080 Tis are running at 25 and 27C right now (idle on air).

I'm leaving eveything at default at the moment because the card is that good without overclocking. Also waiting for the new bios with fixed power target before attempting overclocking again. So to answer your question; that is without a custom fan curve and no oc.

    Ahh, ok.

It's not concerning, just a little high for idle.

What are your average gaming temps?

Haven't checked yet. I'll report back on that later. On a side note, I don't seem to be able to adjust the fan in afterburner. Do I need to use the beta or something else?

Just applied my custom fan curve from my 1080ti and ran superposition. Min temp of 31 and max of 63. Pretty normal. Nvidia just has it set so that if it's not over 50something, the fans don't spin. You can see by my gpuz shot above that 51c was at zero fan speed. Anyways fixable to those that get bothered by it.

At idle with fan speed 100% 41°C... I'm so returning this card.. !

My 1080 never went above 70°C with a fan never above 62%, think i've a pretty good airflow, really i don't get it.

I'd check a couple of reviews just to see whether your temps are expected and normal. There was one review that received a card with high temps and think was related to bad contact.

I see the EVGA FTW3 has an 150% power limit. Should be interesting to see how that overclocks.

I don't have any of mine yet but those temps are not in line with anything I've read.

    Maybe the heatsink is loose.

Likely a bit more since the FE power limit is capped at 123%.

Can you hear the fan, and does it sound like it's at 100%? At that temp your card should run the fans at 0 RPM. What monitoring software are you using? If it's Afterburner I'd suggest getting in there and manually adjusting the fan speed. Keep an eye on what Afterburner reports for temps and fan speed, and keep your ears tuned to the sound of the fans from your case.

Before doing that pop open up your case and ensure your card's fans are actually spinning at idle, and listen to see if they're loud.

Afterburner is reliable software, are you using it and not something else? Do you have the latest beta that supports the 20 series?

    Best of luck with this!

Edit: Did you do a clean driver install?

Clean driver install, i'm using exclusively Afterburner, and forcing fan to 100%. Even while forcing fan at 100%, and it being loud, the card go way beyond 70°C under load. I'm might have cross 80°C in BF1.

Forcing fan speed to 100% prevent from reaching 80°C or more, but it still reach 75-74°C during BF1:
