That feeling when you are supposed to take for real information from someone who can get hands on newest and greatest unreleased CPU, but can't afford 10 years old phone to take acceptable photo.

The 'key detail' is the temperature which is missing. :p But that 1.215V is impressive.

don't think is 100% stable under full test load. might be need more vcore for that freq. no HT means higher clock though

Against all odds, can it be this is the next Sandy Bridge? One can only hope.

It needs to be that fast because it needs to beat Spectre fixes also, not just last year's model's benchmarks.
I don't know about Intel, somehow I can't bring myself to be enthusiastic about their product when I think about how they treated the whole Spectre issue in the first place. I don't fancy installing patches manually on a monthly basis for premium price hardware.

It could be you know :)

Problem is, does ES mean Extra Special i.e. Cherry picked (and not Engineering Sample) and the price.....

I remember when they hit 100MHz the first time. My mind was blown. "Wow, these things need cooling? Wtf? This is really next gen."

No, sorry, correction: "This is really rad." We used "rad" back then.

All your hardware was hopelessly obsoleted every 2 years. Including consoles. Good times. :p

SB was revolutionary not just because of its OCing capabilities, but it was also had great performance-per-clock and was well-built. It was all-around a great product. The 9700K obviously offers impressive performance, but the IPC per core hasn't really improved much.
I was too young at the time to remember or understand any of that, though my family once owned one of these. However, I had the same reaction when ARM CPUs were released with active cooling. Though, a little bit of me was like "this isn't really next gen, this is just struggling to keep up..."

Higher clocks are the only real advantage Intel has over AMD now that their IPC has stagnated and even regressed because the Meltdown and Spectre patches. Still i wouldn´t mind having one of those speed devils but not at the expense of having to buy another MB...

did you not notice "air cooling"?
so the temps are well in hand, except for those in the lost quarter, the outback, mojave desert, Malaysia, and Saudi
