I think this is the first time in Nvidias history where the performance of a new product fails to beat that of a last gen product at a better price point. Only thing it offers is a new feature (RT) which may not necessarily improve your gaming experience if its only playable at lower resolutions (1080p). Something seems horribly amiss, so best to wait for reviews before reaching any conclusions.

Yes, I dont see any competition from AMD, but I sure as hell am not going to rush out and buy a Turing 'just because' theres no competition, lol. Will glady sit it out for next 2-3 years without a sweat.

Re CPUs, not really comparable. Theres millions of buyers who were on old systems that just needed something new, so Ryzen came in at the right time (not nessarily speaking of enthusiasts). CPUs do not exactly follow the same upgrade criteria as GPUs.

Just looking at old reviews, on their release dates:
970 was matching 780ti or lagging by 10% at worst
    770 > 680 by 5~10%
    670 > 580 by 10~30%
    570 > 480 by 0~10%
470 > 285 in most cases, sometimes lagging behind by 10%, others beating the 285 by 20+%

All those x8x models were top of the range (excluding dual gpus) at the time.

If this series' performance is confirmed and prices are not cut, it'll be a HARD pass for me. My 290 is sitll chugging along just fine.

Yes, but when games with new AA and other things optimized for 20X0(Ti) cards start popping in...
    You'll know who got R*.

I was more or less implying the price that Intel had to tremendously come back down on after 10 years of monopoly due to lack of competition. Very similar here, if AMD were to release something close to titan Xp or 2080 performance with good availability & for more reasonable pricing like they did with Ryzen, it would only be a matter of time before NVIDIA would be forced to lower their prices.
So not compering CPUs there, but there are still a lot (maybe not millions) of GeForce 5,6,7 series owners or AMD 200 & 300 Series owners that are looking forward to that next gen card upgrade for a reasonable price.

Very disappointing TBH, that a 2080 is around the same speed as a 1080Ti which were $650, the 2080 is $699 i am not seeing any progress in performance what so ever! and the 1080Ti is even cheaper now.

What I find amusing is that if you go back and look at the launch of GP104 (GTX1080 FE @ $699) - people were literally saying the same stuff:

    https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/n...hoto-surfaces-and-shows-gddr5x-memory.407165/
    https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/nvidia-pascal-gp104-die-photo.406900/
    https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/first-leaked-geforce-gtx-1080-3dmark-benchmarks-appear.407523/

Now everyone in these threads are talking about how Pascal was such a game changer in performance per dollar. People have really short memory it would seem.

Like someone already mentioned, we don't know if that is in fact 2080. There are 1070 cards with 8gb of ram so i would assume that 2070 cards would also sport that amount of VRAM. For all we know this could be a heavily OC'd 2070 performing on 1080ti level .
Waiting for official reviews before i draw any conclusions. But yea that would be sad if its only a 5% performance increase though.

Where do you get gtx 1080ti for 650 euros?
Here it varies between 800/1000 euros

Too much negativity here. You should be looking at the bright side of this. Games will continue to run well on Pascal and even Maxwell for a while yet, so you get to save some money.

Well i am trying to be positive that at some point the basic models will come out and go for that but yeah can see 1080Ti's going for £650 while at present the 2080's £716 as the cheapest basic model. So the only thing that these new cards have going is ray tracing outside of that no real performance gain. Well maybe FSAA might prove to be more efficient since both the 2080 and 1080Ti have the same bandwidth.

However seeing the graphs that nvidia have provided, the 2080 was around 40 higher than the 1080, and the 1080Ti is 35% higher than the 1080 so the 2080 would be slightly faster than the 1080Ti, while costing more.... So these benchmarks are on the money really and inline with what nVidia have provided also, even if they don't give exact numbers.

Care we use the leaked prices for the 2070 and the current 1080's, granted the 2070 will be slightly faster than a 1080 but will also cost more. So there is no real performance improvement they have just merely moved the low high end (970/1070 and 2070) up a tier to the high end 980/1080 price bracket.

Clearly seeing how popular the 1080 was nVidia seem to think this should be the new entry into the high end market £500, rather than past generations of £400 thats a 20% price hike.

PS i got my MSI gamer X 1070 for £400 on release day over 2 years ago.

Wouldnt put it past Nvidia to gimp Pascal/Max with poor driver support to show 'better' Turing performance in new games.

Ya but didn't everybody and there mother ..lol disprove that? Linus & others on you-tube have video's on it, because I was curious about it at one point if Nvidia was stupid enough to do something like that. I get not supporting after a while but degrading performance? And newer arch's optimizations will be different so that would maybe not transfer well, but again doing it on purpose I really hope there not that stupid.

There are older tests though that showed severe perf degradation in new driver versions. By "older tests" I mean back to the GF2, GF3 and FX cards in the Windows 98 days:

So it's not like it's unheard of. It did happen. People claiming "this never happened" are wrong. IMO, these tests should continue to happen for every new generation and keep happening year after year, to make sure this doesn't happen again.

That's not a positive. It means lack of competition is allowing nvidia to stop putting out their best efforts and they can just half ass it while doubling prices and still be way ahead of their competition.

The 1070 beat the 980Ti, and it cost $380. The 2080 only beats the 1080Ti while heavily overclocked, AND costs over $800.. Very underwhelming.

Similarly My i5 2500K o/c to 4.5ghz still runs everything fine and is 7 years old, that is not a positive either, it means that buying a new CPU has been so unappealing that I'd rather just stick to what I have.
