The title says it all, I need some advice on getting the new cards. I game on the Acer Predator 1440P 144 refresh rate G-Sync monitor, on which card will I be able to get smooth 144 fps. There is only one problem my cpu is the I7 6700K.
If the rumored specs are correct the 2080Ti will be a 16TFlops monster (finally a single card that does 4K@60 at ultra setting in all games?) and the non-Ti version will be at pretty much the same level of 1080Ti (11 TFlops)
I wouldn't hold my breath it going to handle 4k at ultra setting and manage 60fps solid. Even titans today and 1080ti's in sli struggle in some games to achieve that. You can't expect one card to due that? Yes they will handle 4k but not likely at ultra setting at 60fps. And if your using a monitor with 4k 120-144mhz refresh yeah forget it. That wont happen with one card right now. As for the op's question. I would wait. Your 1080 will handle most games in the near future with ease at 1440p 144mhz. Might have to take it down from ultra to high but you wont notice a huge difference. Plus at that resolution the gpu is going to handle 95% of the workload anyways so your cpu is not going to make that huge of a difference.
My answer is BOTH, if by the 20 of September there wont be any 2080Ti cards on Amazon, I already pre-ordered three different 2080 too choose the best one after reviews come in on September 14. After I get my 2080 i have full month to play with it and wait for 2080Ti stock, then ill return it and get 2080Ti, if there wont be any stock, ill return it on last day and just wait for 2080Ti.
