I've been using the installer from Abbodi1406 in place of the v5.6 version by Thatguy91 which has worked pretty well, there's a newer installer now too but no new runtimes since v4 so I'm still using that.
The pastebin for downloads and such can be found here: https://pastebin.com/raw/46rfrtBv

And the discussion about it over at MyDigitalLife is here: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/repack-visual-c-redistributable-runtimes-2018-05-04.76588/ But URL's might not be visible to non-registered users. :)

Should have a few VC++ 2017 updates compared to the latest runtime that ThatGuy91 released but nothing too critical from what I know.

The first is one is a newer version using a updated installer process (Looks more like a traditional installer going through the packs and updating these as needed.) and includes for example the Office VC++ runtimes so you only need that, not both.

Second set of URL's use the previous scripted method via what looks like a command-line window rather than a regular installer but by now there's a newer pack in the first URL with a updated VC++ 2017 runtime so I'd recommend that one. :)
(Either the self extracting exe or the zip archive which you can then unpack anywhere and run the installer from there.)

Yes that's right, you just need one of the two from any which mirror you want to download it from, Google is probably one of the best if it's not down due to hitting some download limit or similar cap though Mega is pretty good too but I wouldn't use the extension they offer.

Thanks for this amazing tool that shouldn't need to exist. Windows should be able to take care of this kind of stuff by now. I was having trouble with some GOG games refusing to start because of missing files. I used this tool and they work just fine now.

Windows is so smart that it thinks this stuff isnt needed, Or well MS thinks this, Install this is one the first things I do I new install of windows, one main reason I do this with install these and running the compiler is with out of windows permission are more messed up then they are with doing this. There is also quite of few games and programs that need this stuff.

But you right Windows should be taking care of this it self, as with all those "apps" that auto update them selves.

Any who no new updates for over year?

    1) Only developer of the application can decide to update dll-files installed with the app. When you do that by yourself you can break the app, because it was built namely with those dll-files it installs. It even can rely on the bugs in those dll-files.

    2) There is no way to know whether changes in newer version of dll-file have impact on the application. Either positive or negative impact.

    3) In 99% of cases applications which install dll-files not globally into system folders (but locally into their own folders) are not affected by newer versions of dll-files installed globally into system folders.

Hence the importance of all this activity with installing newer versions of C/C++ dll-files is overestimated.

    ***

PS What you suggested - for Windows to update redistributable files - is done for .Net framework (and applications built with it). And for UWP apps too.

The pack is updated via MyDigitalLife through a similar installer maintained and kept updated after Burfadel's last version, latest version came out January 24th though it's mostly the VC++ 2017 runtime seeing the usual security updates about once a month roughly. Think there's a version for .NET too but for users on Windows 10 it's bundled in although 3.5 is still a optional component unless tagged via install script or manually enabled. :)
(Though not rushing to upgrade Win10 is starting to look like a really good idea after RS4, RS5 and who knows how 19H1 will be ha ha.)

And then DirectX but eh it hasn't been updated since June 2010 and still has several components, another thing I wish they'd just stick in the OS by default really.

EDIT: It's this build on what Burfadel created from how I remember it and then maintained after that stopped being released.

    Which links to this:
    https://pastebin.com/raw/46rfrtBv

Differs a bit in scripting and the installer but serves a similar function though all of these utilities do but in different ways. Find it a easy way to maintain a complete and clean list of VC++ runtimes.
(That, .NET although now part of the OS more permanently, PhysX, DirectX and yeah that's about all plus OpenAL though it's kinda dead I think now with a few older titles relying on it.)

EDIT: And the 2017 runtimes directly would be these. Version 14.20.27305.0
    https://download.visualstudio.micro...021d2ca44f1915ed7f8705f8fde/vc_redist.x64.exe

    https://download.visualstudio.micro...a55fb6d2808cfcd5935c666088a/vc_redist.x86.exe

64 and 32 bit respectively, there should be short URL's too via VC++ and the Microsoft download website that are always pointing to the latest instead of these direct URL's but I can't remember at the moment though I'll find them shortly I guess.

EDIT: And the short URL's 2015 being replaced entirely by 2017 unlike earlier versions.
    https://aka.ms/vs/15/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
    https://aka.ms/vs/15/release/vc_redist.x86.exe

EDIT: Well it's a bit messy but something like that and then the user can utilize whatever means they want to keep these up to date either directly or via third party programs like this and others. :)

Oh that's what it links to, that's good to know for the pastebin and Mydigitallife source is going to a Github project page which makes it easier to just point to that instead. :)
