History repeats itself with NVIDIA cards.

    So..

    1170/2070 = 1080Ti
    1180/2080 = 1080Ti + 20-25%
    1180/2080Ti = 1080Ti + 70-80%

Will skip the 11 series... Price is abysmal and miners will definitely buy these new cards like candies...

I expect dismal performance for the first generation of cards with RTX support.

    That's an optimistic expectation.

I for sure need a new card still using a 980 but...I would be happy even with a 1080 since they are pretty-much twice as fast. Before I do that I need a whole new base system 1st this Fx 8 core is about as old as I am haha.

With the lamentable loss of GPP, how can we be sure this will even be an NVidia card? It's all so confusing.

Same as with the last 2 generations. 1170 = 1080ti.

If the rumor of the spec are true , I really doubt that 1170 = 1180 ti.
Perhaps 1180 will be +10%-15% above the 1080 Ti , but it s more reasonable to think 1170 wil be between 1080 and 1080 Ti.

As they have very fast GDDR6 which will be super profitable for mining, I am happy that I already have part of the cash of my next 500+ GPU order, I contacted my friends most already started to dump AMD cards and moving to NV as they will have now not only power benefit but also speed benefit in all algos due fast GDDR6
We already preordered for whatever price NV gona sell it

16GB does seem like a lot but for those of us who like to do things in 4k I think having more is a good thing. Personally I can't really go back to 1080p in anything anymore. I watch all my shows in 4k. I watch pretty much all my movies in 4k and I game as much as I can in 4k. And I try to do my VR and YouTube videos in 4k as well when I'm editing. Therefore, I can except 16GB as reasonable and feasible.

Call me pessimistic but I'd be really surprised if the 1180 Ti was anywhere near 70% faster than the 1080 Ti. nVidia have no competition, they're far more likely to dick around more than they already have.

Probably have to sell your kidney for the 1170 and both for a 1180.

No reason to upgrade if you already have a 1080, 1080ti or 1070 for that matter. These cards are still overkill on 1080p. Anything higher, I can see the case for upgrading.

I'm 1440p 120hz, also VR. The 1080 handles everything I throw at it admirably but if the prices go back to normal, the 1170 will be a sub £400 card, in which case I might consider it.

I'm betting on a volta based 7nm variant with a different code name.

7nm would push it to 2019.

I have a feeling that we could see a huge skip for anything new from both amd and nvidia this year. Refresh solutions only (if needed). Mining complicated things a lot to both sides. 2019 seems the proper year for something new. 4k users should stop crying like girls.

Why? Just because Microsoft f*cked up so hard with both HDR and scaling support in all late Windows versions, Nvidia even if pushes new monitors supporting all new gimmicks they are rendered useless with buggy 1709/1803 versions. You need to continue dreaming.

You could just buy it for MSRP from Nvidia.

If Nvidia (or AMD) want to remain relevant to gaming, they have to do something different this time around with production, stock management and price controls. I think they can do it by limiting quantities sold to single buyers as they've been doing in their web store. Only this time extend this thru partnering with Amazon or other major retailers, and requiring their AIBs to do the same. Miners who want large quantities can deal directly with Nvidia (or AIBs) if and when there is enough stock to go around. Some may say it cant or wont be done, but the alternative will then be a decline in PC gaming. What would the point be in working with game developers if their new GPUs wont be used in their games? Pretty sure something will be done, just not sure what form or shape it may be.
