Honestly, where do you people get GPU's like that?

My 1080Ti not only REFUSES to Clock past 2037, the best stable OC it can get while undervolted is 1960mhz @ 1.012v

    Watercooled helps.

Mine is with AIO, don't think that full loop would help much. The bloody lottery is the key factor here.

p.s. Agent, are you using Optimal Power by any chance?

Real water definitely helps over AIO.

Think I recall every 10c drop in temps brought 20mhz or so.
Plus AIOs don't cover VRM/memory which helps reduce power consumption a bit.

Optimal power globally, max performance makes no difference.

It’s a minor difference anyhow nowadays.

PS: my card is set to „optimal power“, and the GPU starts off with 30 degrees Celsius after a cold boot. The temp rises quickly though, fans start spinning at 55 degrees then.

If you’re using MSI AB, what’s your idle power draw of the card? Mine won’t go below 9%.
Mine also jumps to ~38% every once in a while, for example if you open a new window, browser tab or alike.
At 250W regular TDP, that's 95W and you don't cool that passively. Maybe that's the culprit right there.

    Very false statement.

For example on my STRIX 1080Ti with optimal power set and playing FF15, I see core clock vary between 1800 and 2020, which creates frame drops and micro stutters.

With Max Performance set, core clock is nice and stable 2020 at all times.

I can replicate this behavior in pretty much any game, FF15 was just an example.

Hmm so you'd recommend to set max performance globally or per game?
Just set mirrors edge catalyst to max performance and saw higher clocks. Just fixed my dips to 57. Thanks! Still would like to know if it's okay to set it globally though.

I always set Max Performance per game basis, usually for latest big budget 3D games I always force Max Performance. For old games that aren't demanding or 2d indie games this isn't needed and I just leave it at Optimal Power.

Forcing Max Performance globally isn't a good idea because it will make run desktop, browser and other things at higher clocks than needed.

Maybe you should read the context.

Max performance makes zero difference to me.

My clocks stay max regardless due to max temp of 38c.
That means zero throttling or clock drops in games that are loading GPU enough.

Thanks. Well this would be a pain to replicate every driver install since I always do clean installs but still going to follow this advice:)

    Isn't that an overclocking program?

You can save (export) your modified profiles with Inspector and import them back when you update the driver...as long as they don't make any substantial changes to the profile structure.

So i´ve just tried raising the voltage on my 1080Ti to see how much i can overclock it but i have a question: should i raise the voltage to 100% or should i raise it in small steps until a certain limit, like 50%? I ask this because i don´t want to fry my card while trying to find it´s max overclock...

    Thanks guys.

You wont fry it but it might crash due to getting too hot to be stable for the clock speed you are using.
The voltage is kept within safe limits unless you have certain cards used with LN2.

Some cards work better with lower voltage. (ie lower temps with lower voltage can get higher clocks)
Its not always a max is better solution.
And each card is different so you need to find out what your card prefers.
Be sure to increase your fan speed to the max you can tolerate.
Afterburner lets you create a fan curve.
And set power limit to max.

Look around for threads where people use the voltage/frequency curve editor in MSI Afterburner to dial the voltage in for each frequency step.
To access the curve, in afterburner left of the clock speed adjuster is a little icon, click it.

    Far cry 5,
Using last driver on 1440p and ultra(no motion blur, and FOV 95), what fps you guys are getting?

I get 60-70 but I play in 3584x2016 which is much more demanding than 1440p. I'd say add a good 10 to 15fps+ on to that for 1440p but that's an estimate. The game isn't too demanding.

I'm just curious: Does anyone here have a custom design that stays silent while idle all the time?

My 1080 stayed silent all the time, but the Ti will "wake up" at some point. I'm not sure yet whether that's a design thing or just bad case ventilation... :D

Yours probably has 0 RPM fan speed idling when below say 50c~ and you are passing a temperature threshold; therefore fans cut on.
