I wonder how did this happen? Were they choking supply chain a bit to accumulate larger volume?
Or is it that desire of minors has really declined?

Anyway, of they can put that on shelves with good pricing... good for everyone.

I doubt the supply is any higher if anything Nvidia will decrease it. Miner demand for GPU's is thankfully falling, so in several months we will see increased availability of new cards plus massive amounts of ex-miner GPU's.

Somali pirates could still hijack that supply LOL

If those containers are stuffed to the brim with yet even more Pascal cards, nVidia can keep them IMHO...it's been two years.

On small retail price isn't and will not drop.
Online and big retailers I'm sure it will adjust slightly.
Real price drop will be with next gen, because now all shops here don't want to drop the price.

Depending how long it takes to ship out these chips and get them on PCBs, I'm guessing we won't see price drops for at least another month.

Funny about the photoshopping though - I'm no expert in spotting that kind of stuff but even I thought "wow that looks poorly edited".

I doubt it - I figure they were prioritizing servers first. Think of it like this:
Despite the inflated prices of gaming GPUs, to my knowledge, all that extra money is going toward the retailers, and maybe the AIB partners, but not Nvidia. The Volta architecture appears to be in high-demand for servers, and at least there Nvidia is actually getting a hefty profit. The gaming GPUs are not reaching the target demographic, so if I were Nvidia, I'd just prioritize what is most profitable to me while also catering to a market that can actually be fulfilled.

    I would hope so :D
But on a serious note, yes, I think GPU mining is on a decline.

1070 FE is $399 right now on Nvidia's site, and in stock.

Newegg partner site even has a 1060 in stock, not a reference style either for $296!

So now that the mining craze is waning, Nvidia suddenly remembered about their loyal customers... How thoughtfull of them...

They've been resupplying the founders edition cards throughout the mining craze at random intervals. I've picked up a few at MSRP through that channel over the last 6 months (which is kind of funny considering people were so against this when it was announced). I'm not sure what else you'd want them to do though, they sign agreements with AIB partners so it's not like they can drastically divert supply and there were reports of miners buying the GPU's directly out of factories before they even got to retail channels.

Considering the last time they restocked the supply sold out basically instantly.. it does make sense for them to price it that way. Why gamers want a 2 year old card at launch prices is what doesn't make sense, not the pricing itself. Also 1080Ti is only just over a year old, which is the card at $700.

You´re right that there´s very little they can do to stop miners but you have to admit that their tweet is seems a little opportunistic, like they are calling gamers back because they can no longer rely on miners to buy all their stock with minimal effort...

    My opinion of course.
