and generally it just doesnt feel as smooth (camera)...

I have not installed these drivers yet. I too still have little hiccups with windows 10 (fall creator update) and BF1. I installed window 8.1 pro (bought a key) and its extremely smooth, not a single hitch. This too is with multi games performing better on same hardware with 8.1. So for now, I am gaming on Windows 8.1.

So yeah I am not going to continue to frequent Guru if you guys don't put a stop to the new kids arguing and acting like 2 year olds. This place is one of the last bastions of good users at this point. Hilbert I don't think you want to let these guys continue to dictate the tenor of the site. This thread has an entire page of whining and fighting. Clean it up and ban these guys.

new guys? well i´m member since 2003

i posted the true information about branch and another guy insists in give the wrong information
i think moderator may be worry if true informations be transmitted for another people, mainly because branch version is strongly related about the topic

To be honest, I don't see how a discussion of a branch of the driver isn't on topic.

That's not the issue. The issue is how members were communicating to people.

    Now back on topic.

"This edition of Release Notes describes the Release 390 family of NVIDIA® graphics
    drivers (versions 390.xx to 395.xx) for Microsoft® Windows® 7 and later."

The first sentence of the release notes pdf, so now the winner is obvious. :)

I have the feeling that those 7 Security fixes are the cause of a probable loss of performance in certain situations.
    I hope I'm wrong.

    family is not branch

    Driver 391.35 is r391_33-2
    Driver 391.24 is r390_99-9
    Driver 391.05 is r390_99-5
    Driver 391.01 is r390_99-2
    Driver 390.77 is r390_00-154

we can see drivers called like same family using different main branchs, like before for example 388.76 uses r388 and 388.00 uses yet r387, or even older like 385.41 uses r385 and 385.69 is released later but back to use a older branch r384

even 393.xx or 395.xx drivers probably will be a new main branch r393 and r395

The branches are not a plain flat list, they are hierarchical - ie. a tree. The current "main branch" is r390, and below that are several sub-branches - snapshots that got developed further, like for example r390_99, which was taken from a snapshot of the 390.99 driver (which was never released), and developed further based on that.

Its also important to note that the second part of the version only has two digits, and if it overflows then the first part of the version is incremented. Which means that 391.01 is just two versions newer then 390.99, and not a major version change.

All current drivers are from the r390 main branch/family, and for new major features to appear we need to wait for the new driver family, which will introduce a new main branch, which can be easily identified by having the two zeros in the branch, ie. r390_00-xx, or r387_00-xx, which will then be followed by a meriad of Game Ready and Hotfix drivers using the sub-branch scheme that we always see.

exactly... like new driver is new main branch r391... and older are r390_99 and have another more older with same main branch but different sub branch r390_00... but not specifically all new branches will uses _00 in sub branch, but changes the main version

    ...I'm speechless.

So the driver seems fine, don't see anything wrong here and it doesn't look any different from a previous 391.24 release on my machine.

Always the latest one, unless you personally have issues with it in particular.

No, they are all from the r390 main branch. If it helps, view it like this:

    We start with 390_00.
Then we get 390_99, still 390, right?
Then we get 390_133, but 133 is three digits, it doesn't fit. So the 1 moves to the front, and we get 391_33. Its still 390 with sub-version 133, just written differently.

This is not an entirely accurate description, but its close enough to get the point across. Even if it won't.

i understand your point, very good explanation, but when nvidia changes sub branch in high numbers he no increase numbers, and create one below never used before

    like 385.08 uses r384_95-8 and 385.12 uses r384_94-8
