    What’s new in Build 17120
Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) Improvements
The Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) Team has introduced new improvements for users to have a better experience with our upcoming release. We have combed through our user feedback and acted to ensure your needs are met. On top of significant performance improvements, we have added an ability to download documents highlighted below.

Performance improvements: The teams at Microsoft are constantly working to improve performance for our users. Windows Defender Application Guard is no different. In this upcoming feature update, you will notice an improvement in the launch time for Application Guard. We have made the start process lighter and faster, which will provide our users with a better experience when accessing Microsoft Edge in Windows Defender Application Guard.

Download files to the host: One of the items our users voiced was an inability to “download files from within WDAG” to the host. This created an inconsistent experience for Edge overall as downloaded files were stuck inside the container. In this release, users can turn on a feature to download files from their WDAG browsing session onto the host file system. This feature is available in the Windows 10 Enterprise edition and must be turned on. Once the feature is enabled, users will be able to download files into a folder created in their Downloads folder and open all files on the host.

How to enable and configure the Download to host feature:

    Requirements:

    • Latest Windows 10 Enterprise RS4 Builds.
    • Windows Defender Application Guard feature is installed.
    • Network isolation policies are configured.
    Steps:

    1. Navigate to Local Group Policy Editor > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Defender Application Guard.

    2. Select Allow files to download and save to the host operating system from Windows Defender Application Guard

    3. Select Enabled and Apply

After this policy is enabled, you can download files from your Windows Defender Edge session to your Downloads folder. The files from Application Guard will be saved in a folder called “Untrusted files” nested inside the Downloads folder. This folder is created automatically when you first download a file from Application Guard after enabling the policy.

    Notes:

    • This feature is off by default.
    • Users will need to assess the files they downloaded and assume any risks of opening on the host.
We encourage you to try our new download feature and assess our improved launch performance. Your feedback and suggestion are important to us as we continue to improve our products. You can click here to open Feedback Hub to give feedback on WDAG.

We’ve also made updates to Windows Defender System Guard. With Windows Defender System Guard, we are making a leap forward in platform security with memory integrity by default and bringing a born secure device promise to our user base. To learn more about these changes and talk with product team, see their post in the Windows Insider Technical Community.

    Windows Mixed Reality
Earlier this week, we announced that Insiders can take a sneak peek at the latest features coming this spring to Windows Mixed Reality as of Build 17115. With this build, the Windows Mixed Reality Team would like to let you know about a few known issues as you try out the new Windows Mixed Reality features:

    • We’re investigating reports of a performance regression for Windows Mixed Reality on hybrid laptops on this build.
    • In some cases, the inbox apps will fail to load inside of Windows Mixed Reality and newly placed Holograms may be empty. Restarting Windows Mixed Reality should resolve both issues.
    • Windows Mixed Reality will crash if you launch the Store from Movies & TV, and then close both apps.
    • The ambient sound in Skyloft is louder than it should be.
    • On laptops with hybrid GPUs the video doesn’t render for 360 videos rendered directly in the Edge app although you can still hear the sound.
    • The 360 viewer fails to launch from the Store app when you click on the “Launch” button after installing the 360 Viewer Edge extension. To workaround manually launch Edge and then enable the 360 Viewer extension.
To give feedback on Windows Mixed Reality, click here to open Feedback Hub.

General changes, improvements, and fixes for PC
    • When a process in Task Manager is suspended, or has suspended child processes, you’ll now see an icon indicating as much in the Status column of the Processes tab.
    • We fixed an issue resulting in the UAC dialog potentially not rendering correctly in the last few flights.
    • We fixed an issue resulting in OneNote crashing when using touch to drag and drop elements in recent flights.
    • We fixed an issue resulting in the touch keyboard crashing when focus was moved to certain password fields.
    • We’ve improved the performance of Bluetooth mice when the system is under load.
    • We fixed an issue resulting in the Amharic keyboard not working in Win32 apps.
    Known issues
    • There are currently no known issues for this flight (beyond the Windows Mixed Reality issues mentioned above) however if any issues are discovered based off Insider feedback, we’ll add them here.

    .
I tried it, not a fan of the timeline feature. I always used that button when I didn't want to press the alt and tab keys. It is now full of unnecessary information like what I opened with UWP apps recently. Can all that be disabled? It was much cleaner in older versions with all the windows being displayed and a big "new desktop" in the corner. It's just too much information now, not even useful info to me.

I saw paint's weird warning that it will be moved to the store. Why even bother? Just leave it alone you morons.

Thankfully fonts and sound settings still exist in the control panel but you never know what they'll do. Unfortunately you're taken to settings instead from the tray. Default apps applet in CP only redirects you to the crippled version in settings. They still haven't added the ability to browse your own PC in default apps- only search the store, default uwp's, and any other programs you may have installed and have registered themselves. What is this? Win S lite? Among the worst changes in rs3 from my perspective and is still there.

The built in apps are just over complicated imho. Photos, groove, movies & tv .... meh. I've found jpegview, AIMP, and mpc hc to be better to use. Calc's a frickin giant and even the smallest resize is huge compared to the pre-fluent calc and don't even bother comparing to the win32 version. Too many unwanted store apps being downloaded on first run as usual. It's like buying a laptop every time you install windows lol. Oh and Edge crashed on exit as usual.

Fluent is just weird. I dislike that torch light effect on Start's tiles while moving the mouse pointer over them. The partial translucency in settings is dumb, did two-face design it?! I thought the windows 8 style continued in 10 was kinda ugly but you get used to it, but fluent? No, thank you.

The bug I had in RS2 and 3 when it comes to changing time zones seemed to be fixed in my hyper v VM. Who knows what will happen when I live install it but I think I'll not bother with that and stick with RS1 :p RS 2,3, and 4 have no reason to exist at all from what I've seen. If they all were lumped into one with the significantly longer dev time and testing that comes with it, it wouldn't have been that bad- just annoying with the uwpfication or whatever lol.

So this will end up being Spring CU, did they fix the issues I see posted all the time with stuttering games like 1709?

I haven't upgraded to 1709, was hoping they fix old issues before adding new stuff, with new bugs.

I have to say this is the first time in a long time I have played games without frames dropping -- and I mean 0 frames dropping. Last 2 builds have been solid here.

Ok, well that is very good news if you did have in beginning with 170x and now it seems fixed/smoother.
I am on 1703 and even that got a bad rap on smoothness but I didn't have problems.
So maybe with this one, I won't delay it much :)

Any problems with Focusrite drivers or audio settings?

    Same as last 2 builds.

On first bootup, Mixcontrol is using driver 3.2.285, immediately the first thing I notice is that the sample-rate box is switching between the 4 rates (44.1, 48, 88 and 96khz) on it's own, as if it doesn't know which setting it should be. I then install the final driver 3.2.292. This stops the switching (although I have mentioned that in previous build that even this driver will do the same thing when windows decides to crap itself). Unfortunately, Mixcontrol can't control the sample-rate anymore, and just like previously, you have to use windows audio settings and click "test" for Mixcontrol to detect the rate. Using 18i20's SPDIF input (from Kemper amp > spdif > 18i20) is unstable at ASIO 32 samples with Reaper DAW, worse if you load any vst plugin into a channel that has SPDIF as the input.

I also have an RME Babyface that is working fine, except it too cannot change the sample-rate (Reaper can though), but, this allows me to use the 18i20 in ADAT mode linked to the Babyface. My 18i20 is a first gen model and I'm suspecting that my problems are a combination of the Focusrite USB2 driver and Win10 not working properly together.

Damn that sucks, I hoped Microsoft would leave Windows audio alone. I bet 2nd gen USB audio interfaces also behave in this manner so I'll have to think twice before updating this time. We're so close to RTM but Focusrite would still insist on waiting for proper release before issuing updated driver like they did with RS2...if it's a driver problem.

Well, 2nd gen gets full support, so that's something at least. For those like me with 1st gen, I think I'm going to be stuck until MS fixes the problem or Focusrite tells me to go back to an earlier version of W10 or go back to W7. I'm glad I got the Babyface as ADAT is a viable working option. The 18i20 SPDIF pass-through to ADAT seems to work fine atm, so, I can at least get stuff done for the time being.

people with VIA audio chips only get basic drivers, as VIA audio software breaks with every windows build. and then they never want to update them.

for me I havent had any audio problems yet.

Installed this build today seing as its close to release and comments on it seem good.

Upgrade went smoothly and only changed a few reg settings as expected. I like the new settings look

Played fifa and kingdom come deliverance and both play with no differences to 1709 at all
