Yeah I realize that but my card can definitely hit 2025mhz with no problems. I've seen it do that. Problem is temperatures rise really fast at that and it immediately goes down to 2ghz and so on.

I'm running my card at a 135% power target out of 150%. Has to be set to that for stability.

 

Cool, mine only has an option for up to 100% on AB

 

I also have throttling but I guess that's how it is when having a card on air. I have three presets, one for 2037MHz, one for 2000 and one default (1911). So when I launch a game on the best preset MSI AB registers 2063MHz but after a while it drops down to 2037 and stays there most of the time. Same goes with the other ones.

 

So you switch those presets before each game? Or does it depend on your ambient temp (seasons)?

 

Is power target the same as power limit in AB? Because i can only set my power limit to 117%. Also i can not unlock the core voltage slider. Although that´s probably for the best because increasing the voltage rarely improves overclocking at least for me...

 

I rarely use the "max preset" but I do switch between 1911MHz and 2000MHz. Lately I run more games at stock clocks those clocks achieve the 95fps I need to fully utilize my monitor.

For games like The Division, NFS Payback, PUBG and maybe even Fortnite where I don't hit 95fps I need the OC to give me those extra frames 2037MHz obviously works best during the winter

 

my cards every day stable clock 2088mhz core and 6210 memory with this settings,but this is not the max overclock.

 

My bad I meant power limit not power target. Every card has different percentages. I'm using a Aorus xtreme so mine goes higher but I think maybe your 117% equals my 150%.

You can see here I'm raising it to 135% and that's not all the way. I don't know if that really makes any difference though.

I just recently built PC for friend of mine with Gigabyte GTX1080Ti Aorus Extreme,he bought Phanteks Glacier WB for his build

Spec is 5930k with 4.6Ghz OC with EK Supermacy EVO , Rampage V Extreme, EK PE360 on top with EK Vardar F3 1850RPM and bottom Mayhems Havoc 240mm with EK Vardar F3 1850RPM

Temperatures are very nice on Aorus GTX1080Ti,idle 17-20°C really depending on ambient, load temperatures 33-36°C max that's with fans running at 900-950RPM as max, controlled through the Aquaero 6XT

Glacier WB for Aorus is one of the best what I used, in therm of quality its miles better than EK,what I hate is RGB which must be controlled only through Gigabyte SW or other RGB controllers which is maybe plus for people over here

Used Phanteks TIM which seems is not as bad as I thought so

Regarding the OC,2063MHz is max at 1.093v maybe this would be possible at lower voltage but still at such OC is faster than my EVGA GTX1080Ti Founders Edition with EKWB waterblock which will do 2113MHz easy

At 2063MHz Unigine Superposition 1080p Extreme result is 6307

FireStrike 23032, FireStrike Extreme 14210

Tried 2100MHz but no way is stable in games like Deus Ex Mankind Divided or in benches which is bit disappointing but friend is happy

It doesn't throttle at that voltage?

 

I really was pushing it a lot with custom ROMS trying to reach retail 1080 performance.
I've most likely pushed it too far over an extended period of time (custom rom with 1500Mhz+ core for almost 2 years).

Was trully a great card, 1080 without any overclock will be perfect for my need.

Wish i could have waited for 1180 ? ...

Of course. I meant you have your power limit and core voltage maxed. I was wondering how much throttling that produced..

 

Okay so I tried maxing out both my power limit and core voltage to see what happened. Now I have a core of 2025mhz and I'm working on raising my memory a little more. I didn't even touch the core just left it at +40. It throttles down to 2012mhz and so on but still much better than before. I heard this suggested several times on here but don't know why I never tried it.

Update: Okay, memory is gonna have to stay at +400...it was worth a try.

Here I am after thermal throttling. Did about two passes on the heaven benchmark.

I guess what confused me was I thought people said to only raise the core voltage and power limit. By doing that I didn't reach 2ghz. It was only by raising both of these in combination with my current +40mhz on the core that I was able to hit a clock speed of 2025mhz, 1999.5mhz(2ghz) after both throttle points.
Overall I am very happy with my overclock. Thanks so much to everyone who helped and gave advice.

 

My Strix has very average GPU. 2025-2038MHz but crazy MEM clock 800+MHz (artefacts at 830MHz)

 

If that's average then mine is crap. I can't go over +400 memory and a max clock of 2025mhz (2ghz after throttling) at max voltage. I'd say be happy with it. You got lucky.

 

My old 1080 Strix was stable 2100+ at stock voltage.

 

Conparing clock levels online makes sense with absolute values, due to the different starting points.
My card will do slightly above 12.5GHz for the memory and just about 2GHz on stock voltage. Max. voltage is good enough for ~2075MHz IIRC.
Normally I just raise the memory speed and power target.

 

I just got my card to an additional 2012mhz after throttling +60 on the core. Mostly staying at 2025mhz.

 

You cannot compare the regular 1080 to the 1080Ti since the Ti has a "bigger" chip. I also had a 1080 Strix and like you it achieved 2100 on air without any problems.
