Since having Win10 installed I always see this phone under Network and it's none of my devices. It's IP is blocked by my router but it's still there. https://pasteboard.co/H3zUPqA.jpg Ideas what that could be?
turn off network sharing and discovery or simply change network to public. Could be some old phone, or maybe some leecher on wifi?
i had random device pop up when i had network sharing enabled on my pc they were known devices though, mostly cause no device can get on my network less i know who it is and manual put its mac address in to my routers allow list
I can't disable network sharing coz it's essential and my router firewall is set to reject all new devices except for known/permitted mac addresses (white list) - still that Fone is there when it shouldn't.
if your router is set to allow only mac addressed you know it cant be there, or shouldnt be there, atlest from router side of things , did anyone connect any random phones to there pc/laptops that was never allowed by the router?
Yes, my router only accepts mac addresses for white/black listing devices and I am not aware anyone connected a mob - this here is not a corporate environment. However, my wife frequently brings her corporate laptop to work from home hence connecting to this router hence there might have been a phone attached to. Maybe that is the device showing up even it is not connected?! dunno?
Maybe just a phone that is or was in range. It doesn't get an IP address. Guy in this thread found 2 solutions: 1. disable SSID broadcasting 2. disable WPS
Okay, then it's not this phone - funny my sam J1 mob is wiFi connected and does not show up under Network but that mysterious 5017A shows up? Probably hack in attempts from outside? disable ssid means my wiFi devices like TV/AV have no more internet access coz it can't see the router any more?? I am not too literate in this arena, sorry. okay, one Like for anyone here
Disable SSID broadcast means your router is not announcing itself to the world. Your devices can still connect and use the router. You can't pick it from the list of "available networks", so random devices will not handshake with your router. Your devices that are already connecting automatically will continue to do so as long as you don't change the SSID. If you want to add a new device you will have to provide the SSID, just as you must also provide the password. You can google "connect no ssid" for more details.
But the NSA might be after yer children and babys Hide them in yer warbroad Nah, above stuff, change your password to what you know, wpa2 psk as with most routers now
None here, kids left home long ago! My intention is not to invite/encourage hackers to try my mob security
Disabling SSID broadcast won't invite/encourage hackers. It will actually provide more security for your wifi since nobody will even know your network exists.
