I do not expect to see update from MSI for Sandy. I have seen what kind of WTF moderators on their forums created.
Those free official statements which were mostly ignorant.
By now they must have realized that they have to do something, but to update 2nd generation?

Low chance i know... depends on how much pressure they have on them to do it/ how easy it is to fix. it might be that you have to wait awhile...or that nothing will come which i reckon is more likely sadly

I'm still waiting for the IME patch for my Z170 board from MSI.... I'd be surprised if MSI bothers to release firmware updates for anything pre-Z270....

As for the ones of us with older motherboards, there is no way in hell we're getting bios update for this.

I hope they at least drop microcode for sandy/ivy, im sure there are enough oem business machines that are still supported to justify it, my ivy lenovo machine got the me firmware security update in december, and a bios update last july,

guess the only thing that can be done for now is completely disable javascript and flash (if you haven't already), on older plaforms

I'm sure Intel is working overtime to fix everything they can/ as fast as they can.

The thing that gets me is this vulnerability has been around for 20+ years and we're just now discovering it which leads me to wonder whats next with any cpu/hardware?

I noticed some folks change their tone when they discovered amd was vulnerable to...you know who you are>...:D

As for the dude who sold his intel stock a few months back....who am I to start throwing rocks without more info...

I'm sure this will be fixed I'm just wondering what's next.

well my guess is that intel is going to speed-line their next gen uarch , the one after tigerlake,
probably too late to do anything about icelake , since its already taped out.

Ironic that this vulnerability has been around for so many years but has not been breached by malware yet. Maybe because it wasnt announced or made public, malware writers were also in the dark. Now that its out in the open and everybody knows about it, we are less secure.

thing is there is no way of knowing if people knew about it before hand, it may very well have been used for years, since its basically undetectable, especially if you werent already looking for it.

atleast now everyone knows they are naked, and that they need to protect themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if old spyware is discovered that uses these techniques. due to this new information. you can be fairly certain the people at project zero aren't the first people to come across this.
The documentation of vaguely similar timing attacks to spectre, on ram has been available for a while .

not really surprising that someone applied those concepts to another potential senario.

Not a big deal, it's easy to add the new microcode to a bios.

You don't need a bios update for that.

Intel's FWUPD tool will update it.

Go to win-raid intel ME forum page.
You can find the latest ME firmware there.

which looks to be within it normal test range, I will test my games and seeing Swtor is most cpu dependant game I have, I will see dip in that if there is one

Sometimes these vulnerabilities just seem like scare tactics to sell "security" software or new hardware. Still makes no sense to ignore security patches that are freely distributed though. I'm sure Intel's sales will skyrocket as a result of this though since people will want to get rid of their "flawed" processors. Sadly, some of this could have been avoided if MS was more concerned about security. Apparently the fix for "meltdown" is implementing dual page tables.... Why didn't MS do this before?
