Any solution for error 43?

Tried searching but useless as you can't search for 43 on here.

Bought my wife an Nvidia GTX 1060 when new drivers are installed it has a yellow exclamation mark and "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems". I googled it to death and none of the suggestions helped except someone said to use an old driver (372) so I downloaded that, and installed it just telling it to install the driver and nothing else, finally that worked, driver installed, Nvidia settings working, no yellow exclamation mark and she's off playing Fallout 4.

Obviously that's not an ideal solution long term so is there a better fix with more recent drivers please?

Have you tried it in another spare PC?

Or perhaps a spare drive with fresh windows installation on her pc.

 

It will be good to give us full specs+OS of the pc.
Clean installation of windows ?
If not, maybe you did a switch from AMD card ?

 

I tried it in my PC and it installed the latest drivers ok with no exclamation mark/error, I have AMD so used DDU before installing, I also used DDU on my wife's PC despite it replacing an Nvidia card. I haven't tried a spare drive with fresh windows no, seems unnecessary but of course it would rule out any hardware issues, was hoping there might be a less involving fix seeing how common this error apparently is!

It wasn't a clean install of windows no, I have no plans to do that just to switch to a new graphics card! It replaced a GTX 770 but I still used DDU in safe mode before switching cards and then installing the latest Nvidia drivers.

 

That's what I would do :

1. Run an administrator command prompt
2. Type pnputil -e in the command prompt and press Enter
3. Scroll through the list, looking for Nvidia-related entries and delete them
by using the pnputil -d command combined with the published name of the packages
ex : pnputil -d oem14.inf
Don't delete the driver package your system is curently using(windows will not allow it anyway)
*you can use the Driver Store explorer utility to do the job for if you don't feel safe with comand prompts

4. Uninstall Nvidia drivers from the Program and features component of Windows control panel(run DDU in safe mode and shutdown)
5. Clean out every single trace of Nvidia software from your system(not necessary if you runned DDU)
Manually delete the folders
C:\NVIDIA
C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation
C:\Program Files(x86)\NVIDIA Corporation
C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA
C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA Corporation
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Nvidia Corporation
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\NVIDIA
6. Delete the following keys from the registry((not necessary if you runned DDU)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NVIDIA Corporation
7. Shutdown the pc(not necessary if run DDU+shutdown)
8. Remove the card from pcie slot
9. Clear cmos
10. Re-seat the card in the slot
11. Load optimized defaults
12. Don't plug the internet cable.
13. Start the pc
*check if windows installed the Microsoft Graphics Adapter Driver,
cause that will confirm you that steps 1-3 went ok.
gpu-z should say Forceware 0.00
or you can check device manager where you will find an old microsoft driver in the driver tab
14. Install Nvidia drivers

You might think that the clear cmos part is an overkill,
but I always do it when I put new hardware in the motherboard and I have to say that it saved me several times.
Don't forget also that you have an issue that doesn't leave room for many things to try.

 

DDU probably killed some vital ATI (erp AMD) motherboard drivers (that is an AMD board). Id advise stop using it because its completely unnecessary nowadays (DDU).

 

Thanks for the replies guys For now I think we'll just stick with 372 and worry about it again if/when her games or 3d apps take issue with the drivers

 

I had issues too when replaced an old AMD card with a new GTX1060, used DDU but it didnt help, ended reinstalling windows and everything is fine now.

 

I was replacing an Nvidia 770 with the Nvidia 1060, ironically testing on my PC replacing the AMD cards with the GTX1060 and my PC had no problems, one difference between her PC and mine is I have the creator's update and she doesn't, but hers has now told her she has to update to it so we'll see what happens afterwards

 

I thought error 43 was caused by the drivers detecting a virtualised environment? I had the error running Qemu with windows guest OS and GPU passthrough but fixed it by adding 'hv_vendor_id=Nvidia43Fix' to the config. I appreciate this doesn't really help you though if you're running windows natively...

The creator's update of course forced an install of the new drivers but manually using the 372 driver in device manager took the yellow ! away and it's working ok for now.

 

Just flash gpu with current bios again - this resets the card. A way lot easier than new windowing...

 

Isn't that a rather extreme solution? Not keen on doing something that would void the warranty TBH.

 

Still have this issue even with the latest drivers, contacted Palit/Amazon to see what my options are, fed up using a 2 year old Nvidia driver!

 

Amazon replied offering to send a replacement before I even need to return the faulty one, love their customer support!

Just tried flashing with the ROM from here: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios...sion=&interface=&memType=&memSize=6144&since= and it made no difference!

 

STATIC Build up??!!!
- Remove VGA/HDMI/DP cables from monitor and unplug
-Unplug the computer after turning it off
-Hold down the power button for over a minute (it'll flash on for 2 seconds then turns right off) - [Note that in MSI BIOS, there's a feature that makes you go to bios settings when long pressed for 5 seconds] - Disable it.
-It discharges the build up
-Plugged it back in, reboot!!!

Do the above again with VGA/HDMI/DP cables from monitor and PLUGGED IN

 

Every time a recent driver fails to install I can install 372.70 and it works, so not sure how static build up could be the issue?
