Very solid advice. I don't know what year it was but I replaced my 8800GTS with a GTX 260 core 216. I had constant crashes so I sent it back to EVGA and they said there's nothing wrong with it. Bought a new PSU and problem was solved.

I understand the concern, but why does my backup card work just fine? Everytime. I think I got 3 crappy cards from Gigabyte. These were not brand new cards, they was refurbished. The 2nd card, was not in good shape. Not only had bad fans, but the cooling fins were almost bronze in color.

The AMD 7970 ghz model, I think pulls more power than the 980ti. Either way I will give an update when I get the 1070 in. :)

I was just curious if I was making the right decision on swapping from a 980ti to 1070 was the right decision.. Thanks for your input.

It;s not the cards man; it's something in your components. Once again, it's a power supply issue, I'd bet money on it.

Everyone said it , but im gonna be a bit more direct.
You might have won the lottery, as 1070 is simply better than a 980ti if you'll oc it, no doubt about it. An oced 980 ti cannot compete with an oced 1070, and all that for less power and lower temps. Plus, and its a big plus , especially nowadays as games are becoming memory hungry, youll gain 2 more gigs of ram....I mean, that's a no brainer as someone said. I would, however , consider replacing your PSU...
You can find a high quality tier1-2 PSU which as long as you're not gonna run sli , gonna be more than enough for your needs , for a really good price...
So If I were in your shoes, I would spend 70-80$ for a good PSU, and you can at least sleep better knowing you're potentially saving your winning lottery ticket. Think about it as getting a 1070 for 70-80$. The risk of bricking your new 1070 doesn't worth it, cause after that, most likely you're gonna stay gpuless... Just my 2 cents though.

    Actually the other way around.

Max oc (1600mhz or so) vs 1070 max (2100~), the 980Ti is a good bit faster.

Top of my head, my old 980Ti at low 1600 core scored a GPU score of 23500 in firestrike.
    1070s hit around 21000

Granted, 1070 uses way less power though.

Bit faster nope. No way. Every game is optimized for last gen GPUs. Only a couple of games 980TI could be faster than 1070 even oc vs oc. Optimizations is an obstacle that clocks cannot overcome.

Your "nope" is not an argument.

    You're wrong.

And i hope you realize pascal is a derivative of maxwell.

Pascal is basically maxwell with a few minor improvements but with higher clock speeds.

Anything that benefits pascal is going to benefit maxwell due to architecturally being very similar.

    @Agent-A01 @cryohellinc

Well it's known that good 980TIs will clock very well and surpass 1070s potential. But if you look games and drivers of 2017 (not 2016), there is no comparison between the two cards anymore. That's called driver optimization and it matures best for pascal.

980TI once overclocked is faster than overclocked GTX1070.Its few % behind AIB GTX1080/on par with GTX1070TI
    980TI only at 1480Mhz...

Here is another video overclocked 980TI vs GTX1080

    You're still wrong.

    I owned 980ti SLI until mid 2017.
Still have one, nothing has changed.

    980ti OC > 1070 OC
