Prices above MSRP are always due to the seller.

Manufacturers can't enforce sellers to stick to MSRP.

Hard to tell. In fact it was cheaper for me than my current broadwell, 5775c, which is somewhat similar performance or 5-20% lower than this 8700k. Depends on game. Price 2 yrs ago was 435Eur...But ram was then like 100eur, now is 250e, for same16gb.
    But...
I cannot compare them now, as I still waiting for psu, motherboard and case to put it all together...have ram though...and brand new vega 64. FPS gain jumping from Fiji was not spectacular but huge enough, I think I'll buy another or maybe 1080 later for myself(ar whatever, now I'm kinda dry). 8700k and rest supposed to go to my sons PC...

I can say going from my 2600k to the 8700k is a nice jump. Games are smoother for me because minimums are improved. Overall snappiness of the system is great (though some of that could be attributed to going from an 850EVO to a 960EVO NVMe main drive.)

@nz3777 If you decided to jump to the 8700k I suggest utilizing both M.2 slots one for a boot drive and pick up like a WD black NVMe or a Intel 600p 1TB for a game drive. It is amazing how fast most of my games load now.

Greg- Congrats on the new cpu I am jellious.

Loophole- I will be upgrading really soon but on account of limited budget I might have to go with Ryzen r5 1600x instead. If money was non-issue of course I would be running Intel. I am so glad they finally gave-up on the quad-cores honestly.

1600x is in no way a bad choice either. Most of the x370 boards have dual M.2’s. I’m telling you running an NVMe game drive with that ludicrously fast read speed makes load times almost a thing of the past.

I wanted an 8700k my self but I refused to pay 414 for it and i got tired of waiting for it to drop back to 349-379, interesting enough an 3rd party seller is now selling an 8700k for 459, there outta there minds. Then I saw that I7 7800X for 309, I know it isn't an 8700k which this thread is about. But still I ran for it ,glad I did too. Because this morning it went back up to 379.

7800X has issues in games. The two disabled cores are causing latency between cores resulting in low gaming performance. The issue only shows up in games though as far as I've seen. Has no bearing on production workloads.

I just received lately mb and delid kit(and psu, case etc too), so ATM I am waiting for RTV silicon to seal IHS to CPU again. OFC CLU used too.
As do not have ssd/hdd for target sec PC yet, I just played some UEFI settings yesterday, where at stock temps was 36 Celcius. Rather high. Same situation broadwell was 22-25....
I will see later if delid helped on stock, bios temps. Should...

    E:
Ok, done. Temps at similar conditions are 7-10 lower than before delid. Uefi only still. Starts from 22, rising to 29-30. Where yd was 28 start, 36 after 5 mins. Fan spinning same speed.
Worth it. Waitin for ssd to set up system on.

Yea I'm well aware on how it perform as I researched the 7800X, while I did find some showing updated mobo bios helped it. I knew going in that it was no 8700k. It was the cheaper affordable option for me at the time.

Cool I was originally planing to go with the 7800x first part of the year but was not happy with all the platform issues x299 was having. Plus I didn’t want to have to buy 4 sticks of ram.
