This only confirms the suspicions which aroused right after the "announcement" of the coffee lake - ExInteligents are desperately trying to counterweight Ryzen, even if it means the "invention" of phantom/hocus pocus CPUs (CPUs that "exist" only in media and in a form of "engineering samples"). The truth is, they simply cannot produce it NOW, it's just a red cloth waved in front of bull's nose etc. etc.. They are knock downed, thus in a bad need of a breath, in a bad need of a time-out, time-out, time-out......

That's a great processor for sure. One more option when it's really available.

The problem with OCUK is that they admitted on post in their own forums, they binned ALL the 8700K stock (few dozens CPUs) even the boxed retail ones, and sold it at inflated prices.
    Because they are "business".......

And they are doing so alongside many other retailers.
As for the CPU itself, for anyone who doesn't fit the narrow spec "GTX1080/1080ti, 1080p 144/200hz, with 1 NVMe drive", there are better products, even by Intel themselves!!! (7800X, 7820X, whole Ryzen 5/7 lineup, Kabylake 7700K, 7740X)
To put in perspective on all the 1440p benchmarks with the GTX1080Ti, my 6800K @ 4Ghz, is just 0.75 to 1fps slower. On a far greater platform with more PCI-e lanes for more expandability (giga ethernet, Samsung 960 drives etc).
Those things would bottleneck on the DMI 3.0 of the Z370/390.

even more puzzling as to why z370 doesn't support kaby lake, selling boards that you can't find cpus for....

Gonna by myself a delidder before I even have the CPU in hand.. not even gonna fuss with stock chip and just delid straight away, save myself from the extra heat from the getgo.

Oh yeah, this is a massive boon for retailers. They get to make lots of money off of desperate Intel fans (I'm sure they're thanking Intel at this very moment). Hell, if I could get my hands on a 8700K for a good price then I'd go for it - I can flip it on eBay for a juicy profit (no less than $1K CAD :p). Mmm, money...

But who in their right mind will buy the 7xxx cpus now ? Except if they reduce the price on em drastically anyone planning to get a new intel cpu should wait to get one of the 8xxx cpus plain and simple

Mental that people would pay that much more for another 200mhz if all 8700k's do in fact hit 5ghz on water.

They're paying for 2+ cores and 4+ threads. A 6c/12t Intel chip at its MSRP is a good value. Plus its a bit cooler than 7700k, which is a horribly hot chip that requires de-lidding to OC or WC.

Overclockers UK has no way to add more cores to the CPU. All they can do is test and verify CPUs that can overclock to a certain degree.

Wasn't it told that Intel changed the individual pin configuration of the socket precisely with the intention of making Z370/Coffee Lake incompatible with the previous mobo generations?

Read my post fella, I never mentioned a 7700k, i said people are mad to pay for an extra 200mhz when a 8700k will do 5ghz already.
    £360 for 5ghz or £800 for 5.2ghz.

My thoughts exactly!!! There are some guys(idiots) paying more than double the price of the 8700K for a binned one that can reach 5,2Ghz!!! How can people be so stupid!???
Even worse, what´s the fun of buying an already overclocked CPU??? I "love" tweaking my CPUs and try to find their max clocks not buy something already tweaked by other person...

    It's called hobby ;)

Someone is spending money on spoilers and skirts for the car, and maybe smoke and drink too...

...and someone is spending extra money on binned cpu's and watercooling...

Calling people stupid for using money on they're hobby, is stupid :)

Computers are my hobby and I spend gobs of money on it, but there are limits to everything. Spending over twice the retail price for a minor increase is brain-dead stupid. Frankly, things like this make enthusiasts look like idiots :p

You have a point and maybe i exaggerated but still there are limits to how much someone should spend on certain things specially when those things offer very little or even nothing... And this falls into this concept, paying twice for a delidded and binned CPU that reaches 5,2Gz is simply idiotic when you can buy the same CPU and overclock it to 5,0Ghz easily just by switching some values in the UEFI... Not to mention the extra 200Mhz make no difference in the performance of the system... Even worse that money is much better spent on other parts or even on a better CPU... Like the I9 7900X that is not much more expensive.

This is just my opinion, of course.
