Innovative public transportation The gyroscopic design is the concept from Dahir Insaat and looks dope. The concept plans to take advantage of the unused medians on the roads. Source: https://twitter.com/mashable/status/902036029518917633
The balance relies on gyroscopes to keep it level. Any loss of power and they'd tip, severely injuring those inside and crushing those in any cars next to it. Another issue is the expectation that people drive in the cente of the lanes, if there isn't enough room it would either be blocked or there will be a lot of people missing mirrors. It could only realistically work with fully autonomonous vehicles where the positioning of the vehicles is centimetre accurate, and even then there are many different vehciles types of varying size. Without autonomy it would likely startle drivers if they weren't expecting it, which is not only obviously bad, but if they become conditioned to expect it then their reaction time will be slowed when there is an issue to be concerned with.
I see. That's actually the same video I've seen. Didn't realize it was taken from a longer one. In the Facebook post I saw it only had the fire rescue bit.
I feel like it would startle a lot of drivers even if they knew perfectly well those things are moving around. Like you said, this assumes perfect traffic. In reality it's not so perfect, at least not where I live and have visited. It's not only due to people who don't drive a car every day but also because people aren't robots who do everything perfectly every time. But then again, I live in a country with a low population density and practically speaking no cities whatsoever where a system like this would be necessary or economically viable, so it's cool: I would never need to drive in the middle of these monstrosities, but it would be cool to see them as a tourist somewhere out there.
Here they put plants and trees in them and then block a lane during rush hour to water them with a truck Stupidest thing I've ever seen.
Wouldn't happen here first they are all raised and second as I mentioned they are full of plants etc. lol
I know they had a transit bus that went above the traffic in a big u shape but it never got beyond prototype stage.
Need to consider population control before any of this kind of dreaming theory can become reality....
