Graphics card memory have risen by almost 31! this month. Both Samsung and SK Hynix are sourcing their production faclilities to deal with memories for servers and handsets....

It'll be good news for AMD if Nvidia needs to raise 1070 and 1080 prices. Although I wouldn't expect their prices to suddenly jump 100 dollars following AMD's bizarre example.

i think nvidia has a lot of headroom to even keep their prices stable judging from the size of the chip and the use of cheaper gddr5/5x ram although if amd goes up 100 usd i do not see why they can not use that as an excuse to rise their prices a bit

That's not unusual for us here in UK.

    Prices for my 2 main components 14months+ ago;

    i7 6700k = £260
    MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X = £420

I'm sure my ddr4 memory was a lot cheaper than now, but, I forgot how much I paid. For those 2 parts today, a consumer would easily pay an extra £60-70.

EDIT: Found my receipt for my memory

    Corsair Vengence LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz = £74.99 (May 2016) I ended-up buying 2 more for 32GB off recommendations from forum users here (cheers!).

Today, the prices for the same product is £149.99 for 2x8GB. So, that's an extra £150 exactly compared to last year.

So, cpu+gpu+memory = approx £210-220 more than last year. Gulp!

Really though I don't think we will start to see prices inflate for another couple months or so.

31 exclamation marks are way more hardcore than percentages.

£ has lost a lot of value to $ since then...

It was truly ghastly when I was the other day looking at my own receipt and comparing the prices to the current ones. I thought the SSD would offer the biggest difference, but DDR was actually even worse. It's weird how things develop this way.

Miners bulk-purchasing graphics cards and now THIS!! I think; no no... I am sure it would take me another 2 years to save enough money to upgrade. Upgrading used to be so fun and reasonably cheap, but now it is just sad.

HBM2 is already expensive enough, and yes it will rise. Its also hard to produce. :-(

Manufacturers will be forced to make prices more reasonable if people simply stop buying their products due to the ridiculous raised expense.

^^^Yeap, i could buy a 1070 today, but i really can't justify spend over £350 for a new card, bang for your buck is certainly out of whack at this time graphic card wise, and i have yet to see anything, even VR, that makes my present system grind to a halt.

I think we are at the stage now where even mid range cards are so powerful even a low/high settings look and run fine for everybody not watching FPS and pixal counts.

industry BS again you can be sure the big system builders and Gpu manufactures have already ordered what they need for a fixed price many many months in advance. It is probably the summer time slow down that is having an affect on sales. So they are just trying to get some panic buying on the go.

I doubt it will really have an affect on pricing for awhile.

Yeah I'm right there with you man. My 970 still holds up fine at 1440p as long as I don't put it up to ultra giga eye candy. I'm definitely not parting with $400+ for a more than year old card. Stuff goes down in price after it gets old, not up.

It's pretty much impossible to find a non reference 1070 for less than 550$ in canada. Most of them are 600$ and a few are at almost 700$. This is for a 1070 ... The msrp is 350$ USD so it should be sold at 450$ CAD. I paid my 970 400$ something a couple of years ago from what i can recall. I certainly did not pay 550$ for it. The 1070 is a good card but at 550$ it's hard to justify the upgrade.

The less expensive dual fan 1060 are 300$. Most are sold at 325$. That's a lot of money for an entry level card.

Gonna build a new PC this fall. I hope the price will come down. I don't want to have to keep my 970 cause i want to sell my old PC as a whole.
