My farther needs new GPu so I have given him 1 of my 980ti I wasn't going to buy a new GPu but 1 980ti does not cut it for 4K so talked myself into a 1080ti hoping it is as good as my 980ti,s in sli at 4K
It won't be. I switched from 980ti SLI @ 1600mhz to a single Ti at 2100mhz and SLI is still a good 40% faster
Good to know so any game that has poor sli support I will see huge gains but it will be slower where sli was good I ran my cards @1480 core my best card would do 1550mhz never seen one do 1600mhz
I swapped last week to a 1080ti from 980ti SLI ,i was fed up with SLI, as support has been not so great the last few years and i decided to go back to a single card setup ,plus i got a great price for my two old cards so the 1080ti cost me next to nothing ,,(Happy Wallet)
You'll be fine. I even swapped my 980Ti sli setup for a single 1080 and I'm a lot happier with this card.
Quick update on my swap from 980ti SLI -1080ti Last night i carried on with my Euro Truck simulator 2 game ,first time played since swapping, and the smoothness compared to SLI is much improved and as a bonus my Fps is much higher in cities 20-30 more than sli , this is @1440p native res , also played Tom Clancy's ghost recon too and that was a improvement over my old SLI setup no flicker and a lot smoother gameplay,Fps about the same give and take a bit . Ive had SLI setups going back to gtx480 and i can tell you this , That was the last time i will invest so much on multi GPUs
No i dont have G-sync unfortunately , My monitor is Freesync , i was waiting for Vega but couldn't wait any longer, as was having nightly withdrawls from not gaming so i caved in and got the 1080ti
I've found it to be quite the opposite. I've had nothing but good things from SLI. Good stable OC on even the CPU can have effects on SLI.
Firestrike Had some time so had fun overclocking got the core upto 2101 had no problems gaming and running fire strike several times Firestrike Graphics Score 29 121 http://www.3dmark.com/fs/13324753
That score is pretty low for 2101.. Heavy throttling? Or maybe you should try disabling gsync if you have it
I would say that it depends on the games you are playing and what CPU you got. I went from 980Ti SLI to 1080 and then 1080Ti and now ALL games run great (since singleGPU is supported by all games). Sure, 980Ti SLI was faster in a select few games but good scaling was rare based on the games I played. I also had my 6700K which has few PCIe lanes so it wasn't suited for SLI anyway. I'm sure that if you look at 100 different games, 1080Ti will beat 980Ti SLI on the total score.
Your score is a bit low fella? My card settles at a 2k boost and it beats yours out on gpu score by about 1500 , we all know synthetic benchies are not the best but maybe something to have a look into gsync? vsync? http://www.3dmark.com/fs/13261296
I have had my 1080ti a week and to be honest I was initially regretting giving a 980ti away and moving away from sli but the more I use the 1080ti the more it impresses me I am really loving that all my games play really well at 4K (60hz 4k TV), as good as my 980ti sli setup. but with the added bounus of no longer requiring a working sli profile to get awesome game performance. I am Really pleased with MSI 1080ti Gaming X I have set the fan to 40% up to 40c then ramping to 100% at 80c I have never seen my GPU go over 65c and that's running the core at 2086 mem at +300 with the voltage slider in the middle I forgot how cool a single card setup can be my case is setup for maximum airflow for a sli setup. 980ti SLi to 1080ti is a side grade when sli works 980ti Sli to 1080ti is a major upgrade when sli is not an option I am hoping sli gets better in the future as I would use it again but I would say DX12 has at the moment made multi GPU a poor option hopefully this will change.
Yeah I am trying to decide about doing the same thing. I game at 3440x1440 and the 980ti sli gives me good performance but now with the HTC Vive I want the best in that and only a 1080ti will do it. I also cant decide if I should SLI the 1080ti's. Bit stuck on it really.
SLI doesn't scale perfectly, I would expect 25% to be about the average difference with 1.6Ghz 980 Tis.
I also have a vive and the 1080ti is awesome I have set super sampling at 1.8 and it is working really well.
