IBM Research, in collaboration with Sony Storage Media Solutions, has announced that the two companies have created a tiny prototype storage cartridge that can store up to 330 terabytes of uncompresse... Magnetic Tape Storage Technology can store 330 TB
Tape is how full recovery and long-term backups are actually done: https://www.newegg.com/Backup-Drives/SubCategory/ID-46 Backups on HD are too expensive. A 16TB tape costs about $90 or so. That's much cheaper than a 16TB HD.
Yup, we use it in our company to backup data. Very effective, plus tape stores data without corruption for longest time.
so 16TB tape priced around 2TB HDD price but then again the tape drive is not cheap right ? around $1500 from what i look on newegg but yeah size-wise and long-term seems still better than hdd cost
mostly curious to read/write speed, but at those desnity who would care about speed, it more about capacity then again this wont be mainstream thing for data storage either from what i gather
Yeap, i bought a 4tb last year think it would be enough, how naive i was. lol At this stage i think to give some headroom 10tb would be standard now. just for some leg room.
