From Poor volta to matching a year and half old card on double power consumption.
    How the mighty have fallen!

I replied in the other thread before coming here...

GXxxx is reserved for GeForce GPu's.
That is just V100, Volta. A Pure Compute card.
It was designed and built for a custom 12nm node at TSMC.
I don't think Nvidia would drop that sort of cash for a GeForce equivalent.
If not on the expensive Custom 12nm node, they would have to rework it for another node, which takes time.
Early 2018 maybe, but before Xmas or take your time basically...

    edit : For Pascal, there was a P100, and a GP102.

I don't take any pleasure in poo-poo-ing hopes and dreams of Vega fans but I really think it's time to time down expectations before the big reveal.

Looking at what we know so far of Vega, the 'middle option' 1080 competitor sucks down a lot of power and doesn't overclock very much. I think the top version will not be a 1080ti competitor because there's nowhere near enough headroom on top of the middle option. The best we can hope for is is a water cooled edition that maintains higher clocks overall. Very similar to the gold FE Vs blue FE.

    No.

GXxxx is reserved for Nvidia Cores. GP100 powers P100. GV100 powers V100. GP102 powers 1080Ti. Etc

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_Tesla

Scroll down to the chart under chips. It's always been this way.

'12nm' isn't custom - it's available to everyone. 12nm 'FFN' is Nvidia's custom process - it allows for a reticule size up to ~815mm2 on 7.5T SCL. 12nm 'FFC' (the one that's available to everyone) has improvements other than the increased reticule size of FFN, but it's on a 6.5T SCL.

GV102/GV104/GV106 etc will all be on TSMC's 12nm process but they will probably use the FFC variant, as the reticule increase isn't needed for them and FFC has better power characteristics. The libraries are standardized, it doesn't take much work to move between them.

Again, my point is that Volta is done. It was only a few months after GP100 was in customers hands that GP104 was also on the market. GV104 will probably be out by Q1 2018.

I have shares, & am happy w/ the expected 1080 perf.

AMDs racket is teaming competent processors, not the technically best on a single wafer.

Many judge vega size from the module, wrongly, as it also contains the HBM cache.

Multi gpu monster apuS on a single or even dual MCMs is where they are heading.

My overclocked EVGA 980 Ti Classified gets 19811 graphics score on firestrike which is a 11.8% difference

  10. I think we will likely find the Nova to be actually a dual gpu variant and the Frontier edition is clearly the same silicone as the Eclipse due to being almost identical in scores thus far, which should be the best single gpu from Vega, or at least you would assume their Professional card would be showcasing the best they can muster. I feel like they will slap two together and call it the fastest gpu on the planet (but only half the time, when crossfire scales)

cpu bottlenecking and gpu utilisation are NOT the same thing.

and with something like 1080/ti and/or multi-gpu setups, you will see cpu bottlenecking at 1080p and lower.

I still don't believe we'll have any GeForce Volta before 2018.

I get 19991 with my 980 ti @ 1481 so we are behind by a good margin none the less. Because this is all we can get out of the cards.

    Depends on silicon lottery.
