  1. Power and voltage restrictions are on all 1080 cards via BIOS and drivers. Just run NVSMI to check that every 1080 BIOS has power restrictions.

    Yes I do.

Sure, because voltage is driven via drivers, which read the limiting values from BIOS. That is the same for 1080 and 1080TI. It is also very well possible that NVIDIA denied that even via drivers for 1080, just to be sure.

    No they just aren't.

It gets you past 2.2GHz range. Together with removed power throttling, that is a nice boost.

Okey, msi seahawk 1080 ti in msi afterburner the vcore is locked. Anyway to unlocked it? Or use different program?
Currently running at 2038 MHz and +100 MHz on memory(temporally) under 56 C degrees at all time(load). Idle is around 38 C .
    Here is the rig:

1.2 voltage without LN2 is completely detrimental.

These chips are temperature sensitive so your 'nice boost' isn't happening.

You can verify that from Ti owners club or even the read the 'pros' saying the same thing.
Voltage scaling sucks on air/h20, period.

If all 1080s hit 2100mhz, why would you think an extra 100mhz would cannibalize the Ti sales?

There is still a huge gap in performance.

    I think that's a totally different topic.

What platform are you looking at for mobos?

Any decent mobo won't give better GPU OC either

    My build right know is
I7-7700k, asus tuf z270 mark 2 , 2x8 gb - 2400 mhz , zotac extreme 1080 ti AMP! Extreme (clocked series) and SSD.

I just want to get a motherboard and GPU that allow OC , so after 2 year I can clock my gpu to still do some decent fps ;)

Hi guys.I have a little problem with Gears of war 4.After update of my rig to 2x 1080Ti , game stopped working.Stuck at spinning loading circle.I know about problems with Gow4 after creators update, about new NV drivers with fix for it, etc. I tried disabling SLI,uninstaling game and deleting fu.....ing UWP windowsapp folder and reinstall, clean driver install.Nothing work.I am chosen one? Or not, and there is hope for me? ;)

  8. Why are you making up such BSs? All 1080s can't hit 2.1GHz. Have a look at 3DMark stats. Even I had one from EVGA that barely hit 2GHz even on 1.093v.

I never said I wanted maximum 1.2V. My card runs 2113MHz without overvolting (1.06V) and still hitting power limit while benchmarking, downclocking even to 2050 during 3DMark and scoring 8350 in TimeSpy. With 1.15V it would do easily 2.2GHz. Without power limit, the TimeSpy score would be at 9000, which is close to stock 1080TI. The 11gbps versions of 1080s oced to 12gbps would be at 9500, which is 1080TI level.

So again, no, there is not a huge gap. Unlocked and OCed 1080 can hit 1080TI area. In my opinion GP104 is the best chip NV has ever made. Considering die size, power and performance, it is the best compromise. Unfortunately, it is limited left and right, by memory throughput, power cap, voltages... you name it.

Just a question, are you talking about air cooling with those 2.2GHz?

  10. No. Water.

    I said IF..
Try to take what i said in context as it was an example not a factual statement regarding clock speeds.

Even past 1.1v is useless, do some research.

Thirdly do shunt mod or flash different bios..
There are bios more than enough PT.

    From 1080 owners club.

STRIXOC T4 bios @ 1.1(you said 1.2v only) is not even close to the Ti with 2215mhz.

If you think 100mhz(2-3% improvement) is putting it at Ti levels that would be wishful thinking.

  12. You really should learn to read. I said it so many times already. With 2.2GHz AND NO POWER LIMIT.

    Here, have a look. 1080 @ 2.1GHz @ no power limit @ almost 11gb memory (not even 12gbps).

    http://www.3dmark.com/spy/1663148

Enjoy your wishful thinking. 2.1GHz, 11gbps and 8900, TI has 9500.

I just sent you a quote with guy using T4 bios with 1.1v benchmark..
2.2ghz no power limit.. Still not close to Ti.

    You should learn to read.

Secondly, timespy is still not that close to Ti.

So your cannibalizing theory is debunked.

OC vs OC Ti is still 25-30% faster

Since you seem to have an issue with comprehension or poor reading abilities, better get back on topic as this is just a waste of space and time.

  14. omg, seriously... learn to read man.

That guy said he did it thanks to custom AB curve. If you set more than 1 voltage bins to the same frequency, drivers will select the one with lowest voltage, allowed for current temperature of the GPU. That means if you set ALL BINS to the same frequency, you can theoretically have 0.8V. But it is still locked at highest power state? Got it???

And what is still not that close to TI?
    8900 @ 2.1/11Gbps?
    2.1->2.2 is 4.76%
11->12gbps gives you about 4-5%(depends on test)
Make the math yourself I'm done here...

Please explain this to me, I'm afraid I was thinking about this the wrong way:

How can a similarly clocking 1080 be faster than a 1080Ti if the Ti has 40% more shaders? Wouldn't the 1080 require a 40% higher overclock than the 1080Ti according to that logic?

  16. Yes, you were.

Anyone else enjoy it when people get irrationally angry when they can't be viewed as being 100% correct by everyone? Not sure why, but I really enjoy it.
