Haha, I know that feeling but luckily I've retained a lot of my old arena shooting skills. I won my first DM match last night on champions with Scalebearer. If you haven't tried that character yet, give him a shot. He is an absolute tank and his rush ability is hard to stop! If you see anyone in a corridor, you can unleash that ability and virtually train smash everyone in your path. I agree with you on UT4. I actually like it, but it is also just same old, same old. ID and Bethesda have realized that the tried and true arena shooter formula isn't successful in new games (we've all seen it, Nexuiz for example), and they die out quickly. I for one welcome these new elements and really like the direction they're going. Once balanced, it will be a blast. pun intended
Well guys, Doom was in development for quite a number of years, but, what I see is this; In the time we've seen Doom+DLC and Quake Champions come to fruition, UT Alpha is still not ready for prime time. One company is obviously putting the effort in, one isn't. However, while I had both UT and Q3 like everyone else, most of my time was spent with Q3+TA tbh. However, imho Half life DM eclipsed them both, but, that's probably just me.
Epic isn't interested in quality anymore. Or time limits. Or community feedback. Or releasing new maps. Or..well..you get the point. They need to just kill the UT4 project. No one cares anymore. And Quake is just killing it right now. My favorite deathmatch was Half-Life 2. Gravity gun, pulling out a urinal and killing someone with it. Oh yeah....lol. I played more of that than anything.
Is there a CFG file somewhere? I want to disable postAA, it blurs everything and loses fine detail. Edit: I forced driver dx LOD -1.0 (nvinspector) and it made it much better, shame its lighting is a bit flat.
Very high ram usage in this game, has anyone noticed? I've even had to close the browser before i play. I think its compensating for lack of Vram becouse Ultra settings im using (even tho framerate is stable and smooth).
theyre focusing on that goofy looking construction/wave defense game with zombies or watever. epic was hiring a community manager & a couple other positions for its dev team a few months ago. when the community collaboration idea started falling flat, they should have refocused...doubled down on UT themselves. no idea why they didnt. its a huge misstep imo & now quake is going to steal their thunder
Oh we've noticed and I posted about it earlier in the thread myself. THere must be a memory leak somewhere the code, because there's no way this game should be using that much VRAM. It seems they may have made some tweaks though, because a map that used to use 8-9GB now uses 6.5GB under the same settings. Still high though. I wouldn't expect to see this completely fixed until much later in the dev process
They don't need to develop games. I'm sure Unreal Engine licensing brings in more money than all their games combined. With as many companies that use that tech, I'm sure that is their #1 priority. Not releasing a couple new maps for a game that the community will die off in a couple years max.
Some of the opinions are posted above. I encourage you to try the game on May 12th and see for yourself.
