So You can get the latest version of windows via windows 10 upgrade app as of yesterday. Which features game mode, of course enabled via W+G per game app. Erm, I don't think it likes my rat drivers (mouse) as I have had problems with my mouse and having W+G enabled in game also causes oddity's. and some games wont allow W+G at all. So, pig in a poke.
Tried to test it out, but no idea if it's actually working or not. I've enabled game mode in settings, but then I read you have open the game bar (Win+G) and enable it in game via that aswell ??? Well most games I have game bar won't open, don't know if it conflicts with RTSS maybe ? Also game bar is disabled if you turn off game dvr which I would like to do as have no intention of using this. So to use game mode you have to have game dvr enabled, to then be able to open game bar, to then try and enable game mode........ All in all one big joke from Microsoft
I don't have 1703 installed on system with real vid to test (its on VM), but I saw reports that the game bar/game mode has some issues with full screen mode and if you run game in window mode it works better. Still from what I have seen reported so far, it looks like a wash for properly setup system (not bloated).
It should be, there is a new section in settings for Game Mode. It contains settings for Gamebar,Gamedvr,Gamemode etc etc
Do I have to have the "Record game clips, screenshots and broadcast using Game bar" switched "on" for this to work?
Its enabled in settings, so I expected to auto enable once you start a FS game.. Would be logical, no?
I don't have a specific game mode setting unless I'm missing it. To make it work I have to open the game bar for each game to enable or disable.
Yes it appears you do, otherwise you can't open the game bar. It looks like you have to have Game mode enabled globally in the "Gaming> Game Mode> Use Game Mode" Then also you need to go to "Gaming>Game Bar>Record Game Clips,Screenshots & Broadcast = ON" .....then... in your chosen Game press Win+G, click settings and tick "Enable Game Mode for this Game" (Note it will probably only work if it's in windowed mode not fullscreen) Then you can marvel at absolutely nothing useful happening
this might help those not finding options for game mode or how it works, or doesn't work https://www.howtogeek.com/302717/what-is-game-mode-in-the-windows-10-creators-update/
Nah doesn't really help at all for those who don't even have the option to globally enable Game Mode in the new Gaming area of settings This is a better article https://www.thurrott.com/windows/wi...s-10-tip-improve-gaming-performance-game-mode
Just a little addendum: some games do not allow the process of the "windows key" when they are in full-screen mode. The solution is simply switch to windowed mode to enable the game mode, then you are free to switch again in fullscreen mode to with game mode enabled. Or just change the hotkey combo.
I tried it with No Man's Sky and the screen just flashes and no game bar appears. I probably borked Gaming Mode tweaking Windows after the new update.
Here it looks like so image free hosting I disabled all DVR options and it didn't affect win+G. You need the main one enabled, like on above picture. Also by some games it won't start in Fullscreen, use windowed mode to enable it.
Where did you disable all DVR options ? The screenshot you show you have enabled the Gamebar "Record Clips, Screenshots & Broadcast using Ganebar" (whicy obviously you need to have enabled to open gamebar up in the first place)
Xbox app. Make sure you disable DVR recording in xbox app so you dont record everytime you start game mode (it has the same Win+G command).
Ahh ok, yup ive got GameDVR set to off in its settings also If you do this, then you disable the GameBar, so you then cant use GameMode - just tried it. The setting in the Xbox App is the same setting in "Game Bar" as per the screenshot TJ posted
