Based on my own testing and findings as well as other overclockers we have found , it is absolutely true and not a theory. Once you have your Ram overclocked to 3000Mhz ~ 3600Mhz + , that's when the Ryzen 7 cpus benefit a lot and get a nice performance bump since you are actually giving the infinity fabric the bandwidth needed to perform at it's best. Also remember that the north bridge it's tied to the memory and you are indeed overclocking the north bridge too with higher Ram speeds , so that too benefits from high speed ram. Higher speed ram even at the cost of higher latencies always wins in performance based on my own hands on testings and findings , Ryzen 7 likes raw , high Mhz memory. If you cannot get very high memory speeds it is highly recommended to go for tight latencies , that helps too when high speed memory cannot be achieved due immature Bios and hardware configurations. That will change very soon as motherboard vendors just got their new Agesa microcode from AMD to work with and new Bios are expected with the new microcode to achieve even higher memory speeds. Ryzen 7 memory controller is strong and very capable of higher speeds memory. The problem is those memories are so expensive they "destroy" the value offered by Ryzen... In portugal memory kits like those cost over 150 or 200 euros!... Still is better than nothing.
8 Core Ryzen with DDR4-3600 CL16 RAM is about the same price as 7700K with DDR4-3200 CL14 or DDR4-3600 CL16 RAM . So it would be a $ to $ and 1:1 or better comparison against the top Intel gaming system with extra 4 cores. That is a total steal.
True but you can pair the 7700K with cheaper memory that it will perform basically the same, something that can´t be said about Ryzen. But the real problem is going to be their mainstream parts because i´m not seeing people buying DDR4 3600Mhz memory kits that cost more than their cpus...
I understand you are in portugal, so i don't know what the prices are in comparison, so i ask, what is the difference between say the 16gb (8x2) 2166 memory ($110) and 16GB (8x2) 3200 ($120) as well...it's $10 here?
Ill Take a Ryzen CPU any day, stuff will mature.! Also funny how ppl only focus on max fps, AVG fps is what counts. Plus i use my pc for more then game, then 7700 vs Ryzen is a easy pick. Will pick up a Ryzen 5 :banana:
The more I look at it, my next game rig update might be fully AMD - Ryzen and Vega... with FAST AZZ RAM... Just need to see the ARMA 3 YAAB benchmark with DDR4-4000 RAM first before dipping into the kids college fund...
Man you´re lucky to have those prices available. Here in Portugal You can get the 16gb 2166 starting from 120€ and the 3200 start from 160€ if your´re lucky to find them because some kits start at 180€! 3600Mhz starts at more than 200€!...
Yes, amazing stuff... After days of searching and 2 false "orders" the best i could find was a Gskill Trident Z 2x8Gb 3000Mhz CAS 15 for 137,5€... I already ordered them although it makes me "sick" to pay so much money for RAM! It costs almost as much as the MB or the SSD drive i´ve just bought...:bang:
Hear you there. The GSkill ram 3200 cas14 ram kit being used literally was as expensive as the motherboard. Guess ram is not so cheap anymore. Remember in my younger and more ignorant days paying more for a total of 1GB or ram than the rest of the build cost. Felt on top of the world because my P60 was able to play Jewels of the Oracle without issue after that stupid purchase.
If you change the thermal compound to something like LM or Gelid GC Extreme you can get temps down by ~5-10°C. It is possible of course only if you have a 1700 that would overclock that good in the first place...
Currently i want to replace my fx8320e for ryzen 7. Which i should go: 1700 1700X In my town,both has same price $300,but 1700 has fan cooler. Please help,thank you.
1700 is good if you going to manually overclock it, however stock cooler might not be sufficient. 1700x is good without overclocking, however more less decent cooler is required. If you looking into pushing your CPU to limits ( high frame gaming, rendering, encoding, etc... ) I'd say get 1700x and buy good cooler. Otherwise, 1700 would be enough.
