Don´t worry i know that. Freesync is just an extra, at least for now. And i´m not going to get the G-sinc BS unless there´s a screen with a very good price with it.
The sooner G-sync dies, the better for everyone!

Why did you upgrade to a 1080 when essentially a high clocked 980ti is giving stock or slightly better performance than a 1080?

Wanted a new toy. Some games were running sub 60fps at 1440p even when overclocked and they will run over 60fps with the 1080. Also, GameRock is supposed to be pretty much silent and it's the coolest 1080 on the market, or one of, which will be nice.

    That's all, really.

My Palit Gamerock 1080 arrived this morning. Awesome card. 2000/11000 on stock volts, max temps in TW3 (hottest game I own) with uncapped fps and 100% gpu usage is 66C. Insane. The card stays very quiet too. I'm amazed, this thing is as cool and quiet as my old MSI Gaming 970. TW3 maxed at 1440p with HairWorks and still 80+fps, insane.

Idle, I can't hear the PC. With the ambient noise from outside (Hampshire countryside), I can't hear anything. It's as if the thing wasn't sat next to me.

    Love.

    :D

Though I'm mighty surprised about your fps in Witcher 3 - 1440p/Ultra/HW On and you get 80+
I get around 80 in Novigrad without HW at 1440p/Ultra :(

New game, haven't gotten to Novigrad yet :)

Also, I'm running 5ghz i7700k and 3200mhz DDR4 which might help a little, but not that much I guess.

Need to play more TW3 but overall I'm very happy. Might even try some 3Dmark next.

IMO the Palit GR is the best air cooled 1080 out of all. Congrats on your purchase.

Thanks. That's what I've read about the thermals of the card, every review says it's the best cooler. The Palit JetStream and Gainward Phoenix 1080 also use the same cooler. Really impressive.

Ah, that could perhaps explain it :) I don't remember my White Orchard fps.

True, could very well be slightly better than 6700K at 4.5GHz and I only have 2666MHz memory. I suppose open world games do benefit from a more powerful CPU.

That's the most important thing, that you're happy

You have been busy the last few weeks buying new gear !!

I also 'upgraded' from a 980ti to a 1080 in the last week or so.
With the recent price drop and a free copy of Ghost Recon Wildlands I couldn't resist.

It's s nice fps boost in most games tbh, I was surprised how much.
My 980ti was running at 1487mhz so was no slouch, (it was water cooled with a Corsair H75 and Kraken G10) and therefore cool (50-55'c under load).

Went for an eVGA 1080 FTW Hybrid, it was on offer via eBuyer for £569.99 (think they messed up the price as it was cheaper than the bog standard Hybrid, is clocked higher and has the upgraded power delivery/components, they've now put the price up to £708 on it !!).
Boosts to 2025 out of the box, I'm running it overclocked at ~2150 and 11000 on Ram... max temps under sustained load..... 40'c
    Beast.

Free copy of GR Wildlands and I've got 80days left to step up to a 1080ti which I will do in a couple of months.

But to be honest this card is so good, I may not even do the step up.

Nice one! I might try to push mine to 2100 but honestly, even at 2000/1100 it's a dream at 1440p and the temps on this are so good, really happy.

I got a game code too, Wildlands or For Honor, I'll go with For Honor most likely, but I see you have to redeem it via Geforce Experience, is there any other way?

BTW, my debit card was a bit weird when I was buying this 1080. I was trying to purchase from OcUK, the payment wouldn't authorise. Tried from Scan, again, same thing. So I rang my bank and they said they temporarily disabled my account because there was suspicious transactions on it. It turns out the transaction they flagged up was my 2x Noctua fans from Amazon. So the bank re-enabled my account and I tried buying the card from Scan via paypal this time. Paypal timed out and Scan page said the payment didn't authorise.

So I went on to OcUK and it went through... Only to discover later that I have another card coming from Scan too, apparently somehow that Paypal transaction went through. I contacted Scan this morning and said it was a mistake. They said no worries, they'll have the card back for full refund. Only, last night I received an email with the game code from Scan and later on from OcUK too.

So I might have a code to give away, will have to check if the Scan one works, if so, I'll give the OcUK one away.

Wow sounds like quite a lot of faffing around, but at least you got there in the end. Not surprised it didn't authorise you've been battering that debit card last few weeks!!

Re redeeming the code(s) you do have to do it via GFE.
It needs to be installed and you logged into your nVidia account. You then redeem your code and it asks you to sign in to your Ubisoft account and you pick your game. It's then available in uPlay.

You can then uninstall GFE and all the crap like I did.

As for your second code, well there are those nVidia keys on eBay, anyone with a 1070/1080/1080ti can redeem it so there is a market for them. You could sell it and make yourself £20 I guess !?!??!!

But come on though youve gotta get Wildlands... it's fantastic.

I may PM you at some point and see what games you've got as I'd love to see some game benchmarks clock for clock on the 1080's just to see what (if any) effect your 7700k has on FPS.

I'm looking daily at 7700k's for a new build but I don't want to throw money away for not much gain.
I've also found out I have something of a golden Haswell here, only taken me 3 years, it does 4.8ghz at less than 1.25v's and since I delided it the other week max temps at mid 60's

Ok sure, I do have a lot of games tbh so feel free to pm me. I'll look into Wildlands, from what I've seen it looks a bit meh. But let me look into it :)

Nice one! No need to push the card further tbh, I would maybe put the vram to the nice round number of 11000 because I have an OCD but other than that, awesome.

Are those temps with a custom fan curve? Or stock? What is the fan speed under load at those temps? I only run my fans at around 55% to achieve my temps (65C under load in intensive games).
