So NewEgg has the Ryzen 7's available for preorder... But which one should I get? The 1800x, 1700x or 1700? Someone have any advice? I was thinking 1700x, why get the 1800x? Can't I just OC the extra 200mhz?
I tend to secure :nerd::nerd::nerd::nerd::nerd: a 1800x, is 559EUR here in Germany! Edit: Pulled the trigger on 1800x with MSI B350 Tomahawk and 16 Gig of Corsair DDR4.
hey leonhart. they all have the same size/speed cache...if youre comfy OCing, id get the low 65w tdp 1700 myself & simply overvolt it! 3ghz stock, 3.7ghz boost is not that far off from 1800x speeds, & given the low tdp, it seems easily achievable. hilbert says the X chips are higher binned, so if you dont mind spending a little more, maybe get a 1700X...but who knows how rigorous their binning process is. honestly theres probably not much difference right now in OC headroom between any of the octocores...thats just my suspicion, nothing to back that up :infinity:
Yea, it will be interesting to see how thorough their binning process is. The 18001X is the biggest seller in the US and UK. I notice a UK store, scan.co.uk has pre-built systems and they 1800X top system is pre overclocked to 4GHz, which I then take it to mean it boosts to 4.4GHz and with good cooling hits 4.5GHz. It uses an H100i for CPU cooling. I was only going to get a laptop with Ryzen initially as I'm very happy with my current CPU's performance, but will feel so weird that my laptop has a better CPU than my Desktop - might have to upgrade that too lol
I went with the 1700X/MSI X370 XPOWER combo but now I regret it. Spent $300 USD on the mobo alone so what difference would another $100 have made?! Now I'm stuck because the CPU was bundled with a Corsair H110i and the cooler has already shipped. I can't cancel the 1700X to step up to the 1800X :frown:
It might turn out to be a really good one too. To fill out the number of procs for each CPU version they may have had to use higher binning chips to fill the orders out if lucky
Tbh i think any of those cpu's are a great potential upgrade for a huge percentage of people. I gave the 1700 some serious though because of the insanely low tdp but i went all out and got the 1800x. My next build is going to include a water setup so i am interested to see how much the 1800x can be pushed on a 240 or higher rad setup. i CANNOT wait!!! :whip:
