That's not a weird deal at all. It's just fine actually.

I am aware about everything related to OC. I do lots of overclocking as well. But mostly i did that for nvidia cards not for amd cards. 390x already performs really good so there was no reason for me to oc it. Still i just wanted to try it and see how much better it performs. Mostly it was bad luck for me i guess. Though the good part is that i got a great deal from the vendor. They replaced my 390x with a Zotac 1070 amp extreme for 50$ which is almost free :) And i just bought another 1070 to create the sli. But the dx12 performance of Nvidia is super ****ty...

Still can't get above 300/299 on my laptop. Stuck at the lowest p-state ever since I upgraded to this driver. DDUing an downgrading doesn't help.

Is there any way to force the higher p-state?

Silly question, but did you install the Notebook driver build?

Also, just wanted to add that I just read the NVIDIA Driver section, and compared to here, there is a hot mess of many issues.

Aren't desktop and notebook drivers unified for GCN?

And yeah, Nvidia is chaos. So many different drivers floating around through the OEMs.

If you scroll down the download driver page on AMD, you will see that Mobility chips have their own download pages.

Beta packages may be unified, but not always.

Wait, so does that mean I can install CCC instead of that bull**** ReLive interface?

Initial thoughts on the 6th February build of ReLive 17.1.2:

I am yet to encounter the UVD bug!

What I have done so far:

    • Uninstalled the Radeon Crimson 16.11.5
    • Restarted the PC.
    • Didn't use DDU.
    • Installed 17.1.2 WHQL.

I had the following registry key added as well while I was on 16.11.5 that had no effect on the UVD issue however could probably have some effect on 17.1.2

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000]
    "KMD_MaxUVDSessions"=dword:00000020
    "DalAllowDirectMemoryAccessTrig"=dword:00000001

What is the UVD bug and how can I trigger it?

I do a ton of hardware decoding on my laptop and I've yet to notice anything strange. Is it possible to see the UVD clocks alongside the core and memory clocks?

Anyone tried Heaven with these latest-latest?

My GPU is probably on the verge of blowing up or smth, but everything else works as it should.

Heaven gives me geometrical patterns of various colors. Valley, the same.

Both seem to run fine on the background (sound is fine, alt+f4 and then esc closes the program and returns me to desktop without any other problem).

    Could also be WindowsInsider related.

I tested some things considering this post and I got some interesting results.
Depending on decoders and renders used results may vary. I did testing in potplayer. Since EVR and madshi (for some reason I cant disable deinterlancing on installed madshi...) are considered as the best renderers in this short term tests so I used following:

Build in decoder + EVR CP = UVD bug
Build in decoder + installed/built-in madshi = UVD bug free
LAV filter set to copy back does not trigger UVD bug (native cant be picked - edit: it can be picked but hw accel. does not work)
MS DTV-DVD decoder does not trigger UVD bug
This testing was done with 17.1.2 on pitcairn, I will see if friend will allow me to to test it on tahiti if noone else wants to do this :D

Going to try these registry tweaks and I noticed one thing. In both posts there are some spaces which I think should not be there.

This is hardly workaround, but I guess that we need to test things since AMD does not care and then maybe we can expect fix for us losers with GCN 1 cards :D

EDIT: reg tweaks does not solve UVD bug issues

Just tried feb6 17.1.2, and the UVD but is still present by the way I always trigger it. This was done without the .reg fix (that in my case, simply diminishes the time window that makes the bug possible to trigger). Tested on a HD7870, I don't have the HD7970 anymore.
