I think that FX was only available for OEMs at 800$ then dropped price later when it became available widely. Also it actually competed stock to stock okish vs 4960X in gaming. Of course it was way slower if anyone ever overclocked that intel.

But yeah when AMD was closer or faster they asked a high price. As they should have. Now they've made themselves some sort of budget brand (because they haven't competed properly) in a lot of peoples eyes so they are expecting something weird.

Just as a thought. If the cheapest 8c/16t can achieve 4.3 Ghz after overclock and deliver 85% the IPC of an overclocked 7700k (4.8-5Ghz), even if the AMD is a litthe bit more expensive ¿Wouldn't you be tempted?

I definitely would and I think this is within the specs that leaks are coalescing into

This is just a thought coming from an enthusiast without specific formation in computer or electronical engineering. Be free to disagree and correct me so I can learn.

I don't have any more specific information. So, like others I can only have opinions. And currently the spread is too wide for me to offer anything but my point that, I'm surprised that information is not in a tighter range this far out.

    That's the rumor.

When was the last time AMD even had a product where anyone would even pay more for it? Their prices are low because the majority of their products aren't comparable to the competition, either due to performance or lack of value-add. That's not a "generosity" thing - that's a "if we don't sell these chips for much lower than the competition will we most likely not sell any" thing.

That's not even to mention their market-perception problem.

Give AMD a few years on top of the market and watch them become as greedy as any other company.

As long as AMD can get some decent gains when they do their yearly chip revisions I think we will be ok. Even if the IPC performance is 10-15% lower than Intel clock for clock they still have time to close that gap. I do not see Intel making more than a 5% gain next year as they have done for what, 5 generations now? I really hope AMD can seize this opportunity and cause a shakeup in the industry.

I'd really like to see AMD come out with a competitive product. That is nothing but good for everyone, even intel.

I never said such a thing. Anyway, I was looking at prices based on what reviews stated, in which case what I stated was true. Also, your opinion of what a product competes against is irrelevant. The 670 may have outperformed the 7970 but that's not what they were marketed to compete against. Going by your logic, Intel would be fighting against itself, considering they have Xeons cheaper than some desktop counterparts that have roughly the same performance, and vice versa. Also, go to ark.intel.com and you'll find many of Intel's products are often priced higher than they actually were at release date. So as far as I'm concerned, you're getting anal over semantics.

My point was that their pricing doesn't reflect their comparative performance, regardless of whether it's better or worse. But, like everyone else who I was originally complaining about, you'd rather jump to conclusions.

So much tripe in this thread.

Am I the only one who thinks the 6800k still looks great compared to these?

As with everyone else who is on the hype train or derailing it, you aren't the only one drawing conclusions about something we have no solid evidence to compare to. For now, we don't know how the 6800k really compares. So no, it doesn't look great, but, it doesn't look bad either.

    EDIT:
The 8c/16t lineup is comparable to a 4c/8t up to an 8c/16t by Intel or in another perspective, ~$350 to $1050. That's a huge range considering there's no change in thread count, and, not much of a change in frequency. You can't realistically say they're comparing to price, but it doesn't make sense how you could say they're comparing to performance either. So again, for now we can't draw any conclusions.

Sure, hence my tripe mention. Many celebrating this as a win for AMD. Yet Intel have a 6 core i7 for little over £400. Not bad if you ask me.

I really hope that a £400 AMD chip can beat that, comfortably. Let's hope.

Its where the things start to be interesting.. it is an 8c /16 thread.. 4 and 6 cores are coming....

so if they put a 4 cores way higher ( let say 4.2ghz ) who match, overcome the 7700K ( higher clock ) but with lower price ? I dont say you should buy it if you have allready motherboard etc.... But... This have nothing do with the price.

I think the prices are spot on for AMD.

You dont want they sold 8cores for 200$ no ?... if you have only 200$ to use (or want to use ) , buy a 4 cores 8threads ( whatever it is an AMD or an Intel ).

Personally i really hope it will be possible to buy Opteron style 12cores and install them on an consumer motherboard, as it was possible with Opteron in the past. ( and Xeon )... ( for been able to have overclocking feature and use them both for gaming and my CAD,CG workstation ).

    Yes, you're the only one.

I think this lineup is total BS and people are just randomly guessing who they''ll fight with versus Intel Parts. Wait for the benchmarks I say...

I want to see STP performance MTP has always been great on AMD not sure about the pricing, but for same price you get 8core and not 4

In comparison? Maybe...I considered it but those PCIe lanes....I went with the 6850k because that and the higher binning. Maybe I got lucky but 4.6ghz was easy. I settled on 4.5 because, I prefer less than 80C peak temps and at this clock the H100i v2 fans stay at idle 750 rpm and silent. Granted, I'd never see Prime95 temps when gaming....

Have prices skyrocketed or something? The 4C/8T chips used to be $400 in Canada. 400 Euros is is $562, and would likely be priced at $600 even if Euro prices include VAT (we'd get taxed on top of that price).

Well I just checked and prices have gone up but not that amount. $470 for a 7700K on "sale", $70 more just because they can sucks, but that's still nowhere near $600 especially considering our prices are pre-tax.

Everyone's hyped but I'm sorely disappointed, I was really hoping to be able to get an AMD chip for not much more than $500. And IMO, even $500 for just the CPU is disgusting.

Sure, but unless performance per core is very low, 80 euros for 4 additional cores (and 8 extra threads) makes a lot of sense.

Waste for what? Today's demanding single-thread applications are only meaningless benchmarks. Single-thread performance make no more sense today for real application and modern (last 10-15 years?) operating systems.
If your target PC usage is the avarage Bob/Joh/John/Macro/whatever, ie browsing facebook, whatching porn and remove wrinkles with the default photo-application then I am pretty sure you are fine with whatever device you are using, probably a smart-phone would be fine too.

6 GHz?!!!:funny: I want what you're smoking. Both Intel and AMD are having enough problems just hit 5 Ghz in general. If you really need the speed then get a FX-9590 turn off 4 modulus and clock it up to 5.2ish. Or if you win the silicon lottery, buy a 7700K and OC to 5.2ish.

Either way, we won't be seeing 6 GHz any time soon, at least on air and out of the box.

    Just sayin'

EU have higher taxes, for example: the so called 199$ RX480 4gb here costs around 250 Euro and the 8gb version 315 Euro. Life ain't easy for everyone.

I agree, the most expensive component I bought in my life was a 9800GTX and I thought it was hard to pay. The lack of competition and fanboys really ****ed us.

People still live on the Ghz race era, it's long over.
