Was offered a £5 per month upgrade from the 40mb fibre to 76mb, so was paying £20 for fibre and phone. Now paying £25.

    Well worth it.

^^ nice, BT did something similar to us when we were on 40/10, "Sign another 24 month contract and we'll upgrade you to 80/20 for free"

    lol... ok then :D

    Actually 76/19 but...

Not great but at least there's no cap and it's stable as hell. Comes free with my apartment.

    Top this!

No folks, that isn't a joke. Even though my line will support 8mb easily, the single DSLAM in about a 10 square mile area is a bit oversubscribed... Every friggen day from about 4pm to midnight.

No its about half. try this speed test, it runs longer and gives a way better report.

Not sure how they do it over there, but in the US ISPs will almost always over-provision. So if they tell us we are going to get 300 Mbps we actually get 350 Mbps. So if you are paying for 75Mbps and only getting ~55Mbps something isn't right. You should probably give your ISP a call.

For instance I pay for 300/20 and get this:

It's probably pretty normal over here, people might complain about Virgin (200MB) but unlike many competitors you are more likely to get the speed you pay for and not this "up to" claim.

    Crappy upload speed though.

Do Virgin still throttle during peak hours?

That put me off going with them, not that I think they're in my area atm either, quite happy with BT Infinity 2.0, I get what they advertise (76/19) and no throttling

Not that I've noticed, they used to throttle connections to Usenet to about 25% which was still fast but annoying, but that was a while ago.

I will check again tonight, but im sure i would have noticed at the weekend.
