Good point. For the time being, I am still running at 1080p but using Fast VSync in games so the GPU is still rendering as many frames as possible (or that my CPU will allow) while still locking my display at 60 Hz/60 FPS. I don't have a G-Sync display yet, but I've found Fast VSync to be a much better option for my eyes and overall performance than adaptive VSync or standard VSync with triple buffering. With Fast VSync I've had no apparent input lag or screen tearing which is a win for me.

On another note, the cooler will be arriving today according to the tracker, most likely while I'm at work. Hopefully FedEx will leave it at the door for me.

Playing @ 1080p60/75 with Vsync myself.

Lately 1080p75 as I managed to "OC" my monitor with CRU.

I will be installing the cooler within the next couple hours. Would it be worth it to remove the pre-applied TIM and apply some of the Gelid GC-Extreme paste I currently have sitting around? I would think the Gelid paste is higher quality than the pre-applied stuff but who knows?

    Hi there

Have used on my Raijintek Morpheus Noctua NT-H1 and temps has been as per previous post there...

I think Arctic using their MX series which I think is not bad, but have longer curing times...

I would use Gelid GC Extreme, I'm using this paste on my GPU water blocks and on CPU I'm using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Jura

Installation of cooler shouldn't be hard unless you will be using some poor tools and I think this should be possible installed in 30-45 mins as max

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Jura

Just did a quick search and confirmed they do use MX-4. I'll apply the GC-Extreme then since it seems to be a slightly better performer based on all reviews I've seen. The difference may be marginal, but an improvement is still an improvement!

If Arctic using MX-4 for their coolers then I would use GC-Extreme as well, I'm using too as well thermal paste on EK WB

But agree GC-Extreme have great reviews and I started to use this paste, just for CPU I'm still using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut with which I do have good results on many CPU

Hope this helps and good luck

    Thanks, Jura

Yea it's MX-4 preapplied, not bad but applying TIM yourself is often better.

I put some Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra on mine :p

I have the GTX 980 Ti back up and running with the AX III cooler now. Not a very difficult install, but the directions definitely left more to be desired. Initial testing shows a massive improvement in noise and cooling performance. Running at 1415/7600, the temps only rose to 50C during Heaven 4.0. Previously, it would peg out at 83C every time, even at stock clocks. As I sit here typing, it is idling at 24C (previously 30C). Just for reference, I used the GC-Extreme thermal paste and was able to put the heatsinks on the memory chips and the VRMs. I snapped a quick photo of the heatsink arrangement as the adhesive was curing also.

After a 64-player game of BF1, the card didn't break 44C at 1415/7600. I'm definitely very happy with the cooling upgrade!

The room temp is set to 68F, or roughly 20C. Should have been pretty close to that at the time of those temps.

    Good temps.

Too bad you can't monitor vreg temps.

Back when i had 580 sli lightnings, i was OC at 1000mhz at idk 1.2x volts.

Swapping cooler to accelero dropped temps a good bit but games would crash all the time.
Problem was the cheap aluminum heatsinks. Couldn't handle the heat load on voltage OC.

    Have fun :)

At that clock, the 980 Ti kicks some serious butt.

I would however recommend not OCing, or OCing lower in games that don't have performance issues. If you play games that run perfectly fine at lower clocks, no need to raise the clocks/voltages much. Will help with the longevity of the card.

Thanks for the info & advice everyone.

Here are a couple quick Fire Strike 1.1 runs:

    Stock clocks, 100% power target
    14877 overall score
    Graphics Score 17 198
    Physics Score 15 138
    Combined Score 7 301

1465 MHz max boost & 7600 MHz memory, 110% power target, default voltage
    16575 overall score
    Graphics Score 20 081
    Physics Score 15 171
    Combined Score 7 638

Nice based on those boost clocks you got on stock voltage looks like you got a nice card!!

Before getting the 1080, I had a 980ti mine was about the same doing ~1450Mhz on stock voltage.. I did manage to get it up to ~1580Mhz on a custom BIOS but it wasn't worth the added heat/noise from the much higher voltage.

I installed xtreme iv on evga 980ti. Modded evga's midplate so i could fit xtreme iv and also use evga's backplate instead of arctic. 1440/7600 clocks at 7v fan speed temps max 58c while heavy gaming. Very silent and amazing cooler

Did the same thing myself, although later I discarded the midplate and put some Enzotech heatsinks on RAM and VRMs.

Did you have heat problems or anything with midplate? Mine works perfectly but plate feels quite hot. Running card on stock voltage to keep temps as low as possible
