In what seems to be a massive leak over at Videocardz they posted the contents of a media slide-deck that includes a lot of info, including the new name for ZEN, RYZEN.... Massive Leak: AMD RYZEN CPUs
Well, its just specs and feautures. Even if there leaked AMD's numbers for performance, i would not believe them until properly tested by reviewers.
Reviewers? Hope you don't mean the hundreds of self-proclaimed technology experts that started a YT channel.
This, I dont care if there is 20 core, 40 with HT, 6ghz and 20gigs of cache. If it cant beat intel CPUs then so what?
Wasn't Risen the name of the poison Walter White used in Breaking Bad? They should just stick with Zen, much better IMO. never mind looked it up it's spelled Ricen, still prefer Zen to Risen tho but if the chips are good then no big deal.
Out of curiosity, what would be the line to cross to beat Intel? The thing that will let you tell that AMD finally surpassed Intel? More fps in that ****ty optimized game that is Arma 3? A youtuber saying that Intel is better in his personal benchmarks? Cinebench, that gives us a slightly different result every time we launch the benchmark? AMD is giving me a cpu that is more efficient and faster in multithreading than a very expensive Intel i7 counterpart with the same threads count (the 1000$ 6900K). Ain't that enough to make my wallet choose AMD over Intel?
+1 ...and that son follows Walking Dead or some similarly-themed franchise from today. They now can use some new stupid slogans. Like... Fear the RYZEN! (if performance is close to Intel) or RYZEN - at least Walking again! (if it is still quite far below)
That name has been floating around and they indeed ended up using it... I hope they do not use Threadripper though. If it turns out to be a dud then that name will be rather hilarious for memes.
So what are we looking at actually? Good, it's an octacore CPU, which indeed is quite neat for mainstream, but what about the IPC? Compared to what Intel generation will they end up? SandyBridge-E? Ivy Bridge-E?
It might sound neat to have 8 cores, but if a single core is noticeably slower then a comparable Intel core, todays workloads will still end up slower. Many games and applications don't scale up to 8 cores properly. And judging just from TDP of 8 cores, I'm just going to have to assume that a single core can't even get close to Intels single core performance, unless AMD found some magic powerefficiency.
My response to RY-Zen is FY-AMD. edit: nvm it's pronounced Ry-Zen and not Risen... Hopefully the new gizmos won't mess up manual OC.
Exactly, hence I asked about IPC. Still there's quite some people gaming with Sandy / Ivy Bridge CPUs, so with decent cooling and apropriate overclocks this could be interesting to many people.
i considering zen great if it performance as good as 6900k it still good even it comparable to 6850k which mean its already huge leap in amd cpu performance more efficient is questionable as it allow "great-OC-capability" as long the cpu not reaching thermal point
3.4ghz+...for everybody who was whining about the engineering sample a while ago... im eager to see wat happens later on today.
