Purchased XFX RX-480P8DFA6 8GB 256BIT Purchased from Newegg this morning, 3day biz shipping (eta approx. this Wed) XFX RX-480P8DFA6 8GB . Not the 'Black Edition', but hopefully it has lower temps under load than the 'BE' variant. forgot to provide purchase info(purchase was actually Sat.): Sales Order Date: 8/13/2016 10:13:55 PM Shipping Method: Newegg 3Day 1 x ($289.99) XFX Radeon RX 480 DirectX 12 RX-480P8DFA6 GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card Subtotal: $289.99 Tax: $0.00 Shipping and Handling: $6.99 Total Amount: $296.98 Will possibly try down clocking, down volt, custom fan curve to help keep it cool I'm thinking. Depends on how the temps are compared to my current sapph hd7950 flex. The front fan on that card went out last night and I replaced it with a front fan from a bad sapph dual-x. Part #'s were different, but it is working ok so far. Yet to stress it though. That is the reason for the rx480 purchase. My backup gpu is a good ole reliable asus hd5850 VoltageTweak; Witcher3 runs it to hard though. Was pondering between the rx480 or a 390x msi 100me. Hopefully I chose wisely.
With water the limit is somewhere after 1,4 GHz. If you are unlucky it might be before 1,4 GHz. We all know how these overclock: pretty poorly because it's already near its maximum. Why not just drop these 1,6 GHz fantasies and concentrate on something else. There's just no point... Some will be even more disappointed.
Easy gaming for you now Great choice, i like ATI becouse you have Much Freedom with Moding/Tweaking Area So much can be done with ATI + For Image Quality and 32bit internal renderer (yes just like in the Old Days -> NFS UnderGround 2 DX9.3)
I am certainly looking forward to it. It is my 1st 'brand-new-out-of-the-box' purchase of a graphics card since the sapph 3850. The Asus HD5850 VoltageTweak was an e-bay purchase, and oh boy it is a darling running sweet card, next after that was a refurb from NewEgg Sapph hd7950 Dual-X lasted 1 month past 3 month warranty then went poof, next got the sapph hd7950 flex from e-bay "guaranteed-to-be-running-fine", well it would not run during stress, ie heaven, cinebench, games etc, had to down clock the gpu to 850, then when the front fan failed that was the last straw. Told myself to stop being a knuckle-head and buy a new rx480. Hopefully it will be a 'winner'.
With watecooling absolute max would be around 1500. That is with silicon lottery win. Most likely topping around 1450. Most likely scenario is tho getting 1400 on water/air whatever. The 480 can get to 1700 with bios mod to allow higher voltages but seriously who would even want to. And then who would watercool 200$ card? The cooler would cost way more then the card and the improvement wouldn't be much apart from maybe acoustics and temps.
I always thought Sapphire was the best brand when it comes to AMD. I know I never had an issue with there cards
Watercooling is definitely not worth it for a card at that price range. I won't even mention that it's not even close to the supposed $239 in Europe. Even ****ty reference cards are 260 euros, which is ridiculous. That's $290 USD.
they are AMDs largest AIB. Ive owed Sapphires exclusively starting with the 1950 pro. Never had an issue.
So I decided to cancel my order on the 480 sapphire 4gb. And ordered Fury sapphire for 100€ more for my partner instead tired of waiting.
Did a little fiddling with the gpu bios and changed some ram timings, used the 1750mhz timings with the 2000mhz strap. This is fire strike @ 1370/2200 for both sides Left side default timings Right side 1750mhz timings in the 2000mhz strap Edited with better new result closed some background stuff i forgot open, like browser... http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/9789648/fs/9799000
That's a good choice. Especially since you don't care about the 8GB VRAM. How do you check for corruption/mem errors?
No visible artifacts at all with the 1750 strap and 2200mhz. Just tried the 1625 strap with 2000mhz no artifacts or mem errors, score: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/14166464 With 1625 strap and 2200mhz many visual artifacts and lots of mem errors, so cancelled the bench. With hwinfo you can check for memory erorrs.
