This makes me think of back in the day when we got the 8800gts 320mb and 640mb, Well needless to say the 320mb was not very future proof.

Even less ram than the GTX 970 while a bit more poweful. Geez.

I'm sure there's a market for it but 3GB vram anno 2016 in a considerably powerful enough gpu?

Yeah I admit even the 6GB vram version has more than necessary vram especially without SLI capabilities but 3GB is not gonna cut it imo. Even for 1080p.

With some exceptions here and there or older games of course.

Nonetheless I'm still interested to see how it performs.

    Good ol' days. :D

1080p more than 3gb (3gb not enough)? are you sure ?

maybe i not reading enough... but afaik, farcry4 that use massive vram is like 2.6gb on 1080p ultra... witcher3 is below 2gb on 1080p ultra
most games using like 1.7gb (below 2gb) at 1080p
so i wonder how many games that use more than 3gb at 1080p ?

on 1440p above, i do agree that 3gb probably not cut it

well, Rise of Tomb Raider uses ~3.6GB on my 1080p tv, luckily my 3.5GB of a card is not showing signs of hitching in that game. There're also Shadow of Mordor & Lord of the Fallen that uses more than 3 GB when using ultra textures even in 1080p.

vram req is getting demanding nowdays even though it's somewhat not showing significant visual differences compare to last gen games...

ARK Survival Evolved is using the full 6GB on my 980Ti on mostly epic settings at 1080

It's not that outlandish. It's also missing shader processors.
Considering the 6GB 1060 is like 10 FPS faster then the 970, I would imagine the 3GB version being about the same speed as the 970. If not a bit slower. 128 SP does make a difference.

If priced right, I could see this card finally being a proper replacement for the 750 Ti. Drop $150 - $200, and start gaming.

The 750ti was not memory gimped though.

3GB is fine as long as user willing to reduce texture quality on memory hungry games.
With this said, this card gonna do fine for a few years on 1080p.

However, I still would get 470 4GB over this, considering 470 is cheaper. AMD still holds mid level ground.

    Why? Really?

Nobody see's the scam here? I meen really, the chip is cut down vs the 6GB version, you have 3 GB Ram vs 6, Why in the world would you still call it "GTX 1060" ?

You are very smart, aren't you? Played many games with custom settings?

Yeah a bit, and I´ve played a bit with custom settings too, do you want a link to my album from my x800/hd4670/8800gt/gtx260/gtx660 to see how they handled max textures in every game no problem?:
