That worries me a bit. I really want to upgrade this 7950. But was hoping for more from the 480. I was prepared to hold off for Vega to launch if it was coming in October. But now AMD says it's not til 1st quarter of 2017, I really don't know what to do.

Yeah, now seems like the worst possible time to be investing in a new gpu.

You either take the risk of Nvidia and their lack of async support or go AMD mid tier now and hope it pays of down the line with Vulkan.

DX12 vs X api (in this case, vulkan) had never been so competitive that the wrong choice of gpu could result in having to upgrade sooner than usual between gpu gens.

i have a feeling either Nvidia or AMD is going to get caught out in the next year or so with their pants down. My monies on that happening to Nvidia, but they've always managed to pull ahead some way or another through shear brute force.

Are you planning on upgrading your monitor in near future?
If not, take second hand 970 or 380 / 380x and enjoy games on max quality on 60 fps.

    Best for you:
RX 480 AIB 4/8GB (4GB will be cheap even in Nz)
or Like me -> Pick Fury when it goes ^on Sale^
It's clear to me now ( i bough it already, in my House on Tuesday  )

349€ for Sapphire Radeon R9 Fury Nitro Tri-X OC, 4096 MB HBM
or Some custom RX 480 8GB for ~299-320€
Fiji is clear winner here, and my 280X is already sold for ~150€

    First:

R9 390's are at a good price point.

What's funny is it seems AMD is more guilty of brute force than Nvidia.
