Some RX 480 4GB stuff leaking out.1080Mhz Clock

That 480 seems to be somewhat faster stock then 290x in fire strike @ 1050mhz on the core. And clocked quite a bit faster then 290x @ 1120.

 

That's what MSDN states, and it is the major aspect of the resource heap tier. The documentation will improve with the additions of the new DirectX portal, but I am not in the position to tell when.

I signed for DX12 EAP over a year and a half-ago. It was discussed in the NDA forum, so I am not sure if I am allowed to deliver details. But that's a developer technical detail, it is not a "kill-optimization" at all.
However, it is just an example how different features could impact aspects that are not explicit.
Current portal is public but it is actually empty because since it is still in the WIP status, moreover contents of the NDA forum were not transferred, so you will not find anything about it.

I hope that 3rd party 480 will come before the 22nd of July. Will be buying the 8gb version for my brother's 40th birthday, he'll love it coming from my old Sapphire Vapor-X 7950.

No, honestly, he's always ran AMD cpus, currently has a 8320 with 16gb ram and 7950. He buys AMD because he can't really afford intel and nvidia. He'll love the 480. Only I'll see him till the 22nd of July so I need one by then. Problem is I don't want a reference card, they'll be hot and noisy, a nice 3rd party Sapphire would do the job.

 

For the same price receive a card with more memory and possible longer focus when it comes to driver support?

Because async compute is likely better than in older Nvidia hardware?

One thing I just realised... I did speak earlier how there's no "future proof" when it comes to gaming hardware. Well, for me, no, there's no such thing. I just bought a 980ti because it's a beast and it runs everything great at 1440p. When I need to upgrade, I'll upgrade. Be it 1080ti or Vega. But, for people like my brother, who can't really afford a gpu upgrade, he'll be better off with something like a 480, I guess. It'll last him longer than a 970, maybe. It's all to see when the reviews hit.

 

Come on. He could always take a used i5 (like yours) thats even faster than his fx chip and a 970 instead rx480. Its his choice buying an AMD and not becouse he cant afford it.

Well, intel + nvidia is kinda special otherwise can you explain why most gurus run intel cpus? but they're more expensive. Especially when AMD boards support 3-4 generations of cpus. He was on some crappy 640 AMD cpu and to upgrade he had 2 options. Go with a 8320 where he only has to buy the cpu or go with intel, where he has to buy cpu and motherboard. Going AMD was a lot cheaper.

 

Indeed i hate intel changing socket for every cpu. It's really a waste and limits the upgrades.

I think he means Fury X is more powerful than Titan X because it has 4096 cores, they have often had an edge, since Tahiti in fact, in terms of processing power. This is true. Yet processing power is not the only concern, there is also ability for a GPU to process geometry. While AMD has had close to 30% advantage at times, NV has had 2-3x geometry performance and far better driver/software support.

Just look at rise of tomb raider. See any GCN cards topping the charts ? Nope. Tomb Raider has been most polished DX12 game yet btw, I don't mean the DX12 version, I mean as a game, it is very polished and looks very good, and at least for NV hardware (i did not play it on AMD card at work) DX12 is very good, boost minimum FPS by a lot!

Only annoying thing is VXAO is not available in UWP turd version

 

Mostly Open means -> Vulcan maby?

Now let’s look at the leak from TechPowerUP forums. User named gasolina posted some very interesting stuff there. Starting with Fire Strike. GPU score at 1266 MHz (stock) is 12779 points. At 1330 MHz we get 13403 points.
